Job summary

The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

Commercial Directorate manages the conduit between the Home Office and those supplier markets that help us provide key services to the public. We provide strategic commercial services such as market intelligence, procurement, and contract management activities.

The Junior Data Analyst role will focus on delivering excellent customer service to our internal customers helping to build data confidence across the Commercial Directorate.

The role will be working alongside Reporting/Data Analysts will support the provision of timely and effective information about the performance of the Commercial Directorate and HO commercial processes, suppliers, and the provision of spend, supplier and compliance data and intelligence.

Job description

This role will support the team in delivering accurate reporting, insightful analysis, and data visualisations that inform strategic and operational decisions. and is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to commercial processes, supplier performance, and spend analytics while developing technical skills in tools such as Power BI and Excel.

Working closely with experienced data analysts and Power BI systems designers you will support and engage with all aspects data and analytics a commercial setting.

Key Responsibilities

The key tasks are:

  • Monitoring and providing 1st line support to the group email inbox.
  • Support the creation of dashboards.
  • Supporting the HEO/SEO in Regulatory reporting activities such as gathering and cleansing data.
  • Assist in maintaining data quality and integrity.
  • Providing advice and guidance on how to use the Commercial Data App.
  • Supporting Commercial colleagues with requests such as generating ad hoc reports.
  • Provide support in ongoing data projects.

We are looking for someone who enjoys engaging with internal and external stakeholders to provide a high level of customer service. The ideal candidate will possess a data-driven mindset, although experience of Power BI would be beneficial but not essential as full training will be given.

Working Pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.

Training

The candidate will receive training on the internal data systems.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Good written communication skills, including communicating in a professional manner.
  • Strong IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with accurate and efficient data entry skills.
  • Experience of working in a demanding and busy environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of data analysis principles and techniques.
  • Experience of Power Bi dashboard development.

Selection process details

  1. Online Test – by 27th May 2026

If you successfully pass the numerical test, you will be invited to complete the full application form. Please complete the online test as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended). As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete:

Your CV should consist of your career history, qualifications and skills/experience, including any key achievements in each role. Your CV will be scored against the experience required for the role as noted within the essential criteria.

The Personal Statement should be aligned to and demonstrate how you meet the skills and experience set out in the essential criteria, detailed in the job description.

  1. Sift – from 29th May 2026.

The sift will be held on the Personal Statement, CV.

Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the Personal Statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of all the remaining elements submitted CV. Candidates who fail to meet the minimum pass score for the initial sift will not have their remaining submitted elements scored and will only receive a sift score for that assessed at the initial sift.

If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviours (as listed in the job advert) and Strength based questions. All Behaviours listed in the selection process will be scored at the interview.
