Job summary

Across government, digital transformation depends on the delivery of secure, scalable and high-performing applications that meet user needs and support organisational priorities. As platforms such as Salesforce become increasingly central to service delivery, strong technical leadership is critical to ensure solutions are well-designed, resilient and aligned with enterprise standards. Ofgem plays a vital role in the UK’s energy system, protecting consumers and enabling a more secure, fair and sustainable energy future, and high-quality engineering capability is essential to delivering this transformation.

Ofgem is on an ambitious transformation journey. Within the Digital, Data and Security Services (DDSS) directorate, we are delivering a broad portfolio of digital, data and AI initiatives. A key component of this is the Salesforce Centre of Enablement (CoE), which drives the development of Salesforce-based services that modernise business processes and improve data quality and service delivery.

As a Lead Developer (Salesforce), you will play a critical role in shaping the technical delivery of Salesforce solutions across Ofgem. You will provide hands-on leadership to development teams, setting standards, guiding design decisions and ensuring delivery of high-quality, secure and scalable applications. You will work closely with architects, product managers and delivery teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions, while fostering a culture of best practice and continuous improvement.

This is a senior technical role requiring deep Salesforce expertise, strong engineering leadership and the ability to operate across complex delivery environments.

Job description

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design, development and delivery of Salesforce solutions, leveraging platforms such as Service Cloud and Public Sector Solutions.
  • Setting technical direction and coding standards, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned with enterprise architecture.
  • Overseeing the development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing and deployment, ensuring adherence to best practice and governance standards.
  • Defining and implementing test strategies, including automated testing approaches using tools such as Playwright, BrowserStack and Azure DevOps.
  • Ensuring the quality, security and resilience of Salesforce applications through code reviews, assurance processes and testing standards.
  • Managing integrations between Salesforce and external systems, using APIs and middleware to support seamless data exchange.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across product, architecture and delivery teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Driving continuous improvement in development practices, including DevOps integration, automation and modern engineering approaches.
  • Providing technical assurance and oversight of supplier and systems integrator delivery, ensuring adherence to standards and frameworks.
  • Mentoring and developing developers, contributing to capability building and the wider engineering community.

We are looking for:

A technically strong and experienced Salesforce developer who can lead development teams and drive high-quality delivery across complex projects. You will bring deep expertise in Salesforce engineering, alongside strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

You may come from a Salesforce development or engineering leadership background, but you will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience delivering Salesforce solutions within enterprise environments
  • Strong expertise in Salesforce Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC) and integration patterns
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated testing using tools such as Azure DevOps and Playwright
  • A strong understanding of secure, scalable application development and modern engineering practices
  • The ability to lead teams, mentor developers and influence technical direction

Relevant certifications such as Salesforce Certified App Builder and Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II are expected (or willingness to obtain).

Experience in public sector or regulated environments, and knowledge of DevOps governance and integration patterns, would be beneficial.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how Salesforce is used across Ofgem to deliver modern, user-centred digital services.
