Job summary
As a Lead Technology Delivery Manager, you will set up your teams for success and represent them to stakeholders and suppliers, building successful relationships across and beyond the organisation. You will find and remove blockers and inefficiencies, using data to continually encourage better ways of working within and between teams, leading to better outcomes.
As a leader in the Home Office Technology Delivery community, you’ll share knowledge and experience with colleagues across the department and wider Government, building skills, advising others, and applying good practice and standards.
You will support the UK’s security and prosperity through the products and services that your teams deliver.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. Job description
As Lead Technology Delivery Manager of AI Assurance, you will lead the Home Office’s AI assurance function, a high impact service operating under sustained and growing demand. Sitting at the intersection of technology delivery, risk management and policy intent, the role ensures that AI-enabled services are safe, lawful, ethical and effective, without creating unnecessary friction for delivery teams.
You will lead the development and operation of proportionate assurance approaches for AI and algorithmic systems, translating complex technical and regulatory expectations into clear, usable frameworks that teams can practically apply. Working closely with senior digital, data, policy and operational leaders, you will shape how AI assurance is embedded across the lifecycle of products and services, from early discovery through to live operation and continuous monitoring.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery. You will build trusted relationships across the organisation, unblock problems, and help teams navigate uncertainty in fast-moving AI contexts. You will also represent the Home Office and shape in cross-government and external assurance conversations, contributing to the wider maturity of AI assurance practice.
This role may include line management responsibilities.
Person specification
Your main day to day responsibilities will be:
- Take overall responsibility for the delivery and continuous improvement of AI assurance across the Home Office. Facilitate structured approaches to problem-solving and opposing user needs, continuously improving processes and performance.
- Design, own and iterate AI assurance frameworks, guidance and artefacts, ensuring they are practical for delivery teams and credible with governance, audit and policy stakeholders.
- Lead delivery within cost and time constraints, ensuring that realistic plans are maintained and KPIs on service delivery are met. Ensure regular, accurate communication with stakeholders and engagement with appropriate governance.
- Develop and bring together motivated, functioning teams, empowering cross-team collaboration and joined-up delivery. Monitor the health of interactions between teams and resolve issues.
- Ensure that risks are identified, their impact and probability are understood, and mitigations are in place, involving specialists where necessary.
- Identify and understand stakeholder groups and their needs. Develop stakeholder engagement strategies and plans and lead teams in executing them.
- Work proactively with suppliers involved in delivery, monitoring their performance, and collaborating to resolve issues. Help to improve supplier management processes.
- Represent the Home Office in cross‑government AI assurance and evaluation forums, sharing learning and shaping good practice beyond the department.

Capability allowance
This role has access to a Digital Capability-Based Allowance – Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA). The allowance values are set by the Home Office, subject to remaining in a qualifying role. This allowance is non-contractual, subject to an annual review and could be withdrawn at any time.
For both new entrants and existing civil servants, the total compensation offer is a combination of base salary and, if applicable, a capability-based allowance. The pay ranges for this role are National: £76,117 - £83,729 and London: £80,237 - £88,261. New entrants to the Civil Service will start on the pay range minimum. For existing civil servants, our policies on level transfer and promotion will apply.
