We are looking for a highly organised, proactive, and confident individual to join the Leader’s Office at Merton Council as our Leader’s Executive Support Manager.

Following the current administration being re-elected with an increased majority in May 2026, this is a particularly exciting time to join the Leader’s Office in a key role which is crucial to helping the Leader of the Council, Cabinet, and wider Labour Group deliver on the administration’s ambitions to make Merton a cleaner, greener, safer, and more affordable place to live and work.

Working to the Head of the Leader’s Office, you will provide high-quality, confidential support to the Leader of the Council. In this vital role, you will help enable the smooth delivery of strategic priorities on behalf of the Leader of the Council by managing complex diaries and inboxes, preparing and commissioning briefings and correspondence for and on behalf of the Leader with input from subject matter experts, and act as a key link and the main point of contact between the Leader and senior officers in the council, elected members, and internal and external stakeholders.

You will also manage the Leader’s Office casework function, including line management of the Leader’s Caseworker and Casework Apprentice. Additionally, you will support with the organisation of events and visits for the Leader, including line managing the Events and Visits Apprentice.

No two days will be the same; you’ll be working in a fast-paced environment, managing a wide range of requests, communications, and correspondence on behalf of the Leader, and working to deliver a high performing executive support function which responds quickly and pre-empts the needs of the Leader. You will also lead on special projects and assignments for the Leader, bringing together both internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery on the administration’s ambitions.
