Wakefield Council is looking to recruit a hardworking and dedicated Lifeguard to join our dynamic leisure team. We have various full-time roles across three of our leisure centres on the day of the interview you will be asked for your preferred site. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment where safety, cleanliness, and service excellence are top priorities.

As a Lifeguard, you will play a vital role in ensuring our swimming pools are clean, safe, and welcoming for all users. You’ll be responsible for maintaining high standards of safety and hygiene while delivering excellent customer care in line with the Council’s values and policies.

Lifeguards play a crucial role in public safety, learning lifesaving and first aid skills, educating swimmers about water safety, and responding to emergencies.

Entry Requirements

This advert is open to everyone, whilst having a Lifeguard Qualification would be advantageous. WMDC will fund those are who successful at interview to attend a course. A Lifeguard Qualification will need to be obtained before you may start your role.

Wakefield Council will fund your NPLQ course, but attendance will be expected as voluntary hours. Those who have a existing qualification will not need to attend.

As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to complete a swim test, this includes

Swim Test Requirements

  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without using a ladder or steps (where pool design permits)

This assessment will take place on the day of the interview, prior to the NPLQ course.

To Qualify for the NPLQ Course, You Must:

  • Be 18 years or olderat the time of the final NPLQ assessment
  • Attend all daysof the course, taking place from Monday 26th October to Friday 30 October 9am-7pm at Sun Lane Leisure
