    About the role

    An exciting opportunity has become available to join Regulatory Services in West Northamptonshire Council.

    Based within Regulatory Services you will be working as part of a team responsible for enforcing a wide and varied range of licensing legislation, including the processing of applications made under the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, Local Government (miscellaneous provisions) Act 1976 & 1982, Animal Welfare Act 2018, Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 and where required to do so, arrange hearings, produce legal hearing notices and reports.

    You will determine licence applications, advise businesses, investigate complaints, and take enforcement action where appropriate. You will partner with external stakeholders, including Northamptonshire Police and Regulatory partners. You will attend committee hearings, assess vehicles, work with vets to assess animal welfare, and attend court for appeals and prosecutions.

    Additional information

    You will also need the following essential requirements;

    • A working awareness, knowledge and understanding of Local Authority Licensing legislation, its application and processes
    • Able to use legislation to support enforcement
    • To have dealt with customers in a regulatory environment to promote legal requirements and good practice
    • Able to plan and manage own workload to meet legislative and corporate deadlines
    • An ability to use information technology as applied in the workplace

    You will need to be able to communicate effectively with the public, applicants, partnership agencies and Members of the Council, and work on your own initiative and as part of a team. You must also be willing to work out of regular hours to attend committee hearings, undertake site inspections, carry out joint operations, and follow up complaint investigations.
