About the role
Role Summary
Working with Contracts and Compliance colleagues and under the direction of the Repairs and Maintenance Manager, the apprenticeship will be for the duration of 24 months and will include working as part of the Contracts and Compliance team, predominantly drafting specifications for responsive repairs at our properties.
Liaise with internal and external customers and service providers. The apprenticeship will provide you with a structured learning path to gain practical experience across various building surveying functions while learning essential skills in organisation, communication, and project coordination. Under the guidance of experienced team members, you will provide technical support in the delivery of those programmes.

"I have worked for TCH since 2016 and have had various roles in that time, I have been employed as our Repairs and Maintenance Manager since November 2022. I am responsible for a team of surveyors as well our damp and mould and disrepair teams. I also work very closely with our Direct Labour Organisation, TCH Repairs. In my spare time I enjoy playing squash, going to the gym as well as weekends spent fishing."

What will you be doing?
Role Specific Responsibilities
During your apprenticeship you will
- Dedicate at least 20% of your working hours to training or studying by attend training sessions, workshops, and meetings to gain essential knowledge in the field.
- Participate in off and on-the-job training to apply your learning in real-world scenarios, enhancing your practical skills and understanding.
- Complete assignments, assessments, and coursework to fulfil the programmes requirements.
- Engage in 1:1 sessions and performance reviews, providing valuable insights for personal growth and skill development.
- Receive mentoring and support from experienced professionals, offering guidance to help you succeed.
- Have opportunities for career development within the company, exploring potential growth and advancement.
- Complete a final end point assessment to demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and competence at the end of your apprenticeship. If you have not yet achieved a Level 2 in Functional Skills in math’s and English (or equivalent, such as GCSEs at grades A-C/9-4), you will also be required to complete these qualifications during your apprenticeship.
Key Activities
The initial training period will provide a better understanding of the departments in Town and Country Housing and will also require administration tasks to be undertaken such as:
•Permission requests
•Updating spreadsheets
•Data entry
The Apprentice will shadow the Repairs and Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Surveyors:
•Shadow on site visits, surveys and appropriate meetings for the purpose of defects diagnosis, repair, alteration, improvement.
•Assist to arrange access for the Maintenance Surveyors to undertake surveys
•Assist to create a photographic record, validating the condition of the property
•Assist with customer enquiries
Further to the initial training period, the Apprentice will move towards more project orientated tasks that assist the Apprentice to gain a wider understanding of project management, including procurement, contract administration and customer liaison.
•Shadow the Repairs and Maintenance Manager through the procurement of a contract and assist with related tasks
•Support Maintenance Surveyors and Repairs Supervisors on the delivery of projects including site surveys, inspections, contract meetings, valuations and payments
•Assist with customer liaison
•Receive and resolve customer queries and maintain CRM records.
•Monitor complaint resolution and maintain CRM records.
The second part of the Apprenticeship will enable the Apprentice to gain insight into the more specialised construction disciplines. The Apprentice will also gain some independence and, under the supervision of the Repairs and Maintenance Manager, work on their own small projects:
•Draft a specification
•Produce a specification or design
•Obtain quotes
•Liaise with customers
•Checking completed work
•Contractor payments
During this period, the Apprentice will also:
•Gain exposure to compliancy and building safety.
•Assist with a project that has consultant involvement.
APPRENTICESHIP
This is a Level 3 Surveying Apprenticeship over 24 months, with at least 20% of your time dedicated to training. During this time, you will attend workshops, receive one-on-one mentoring, and apply your learning to real-world tasks. Upon completing the apprenticeship, you’ll have a final assessment to demonstrate your skills and readiness for a career in surveying. As part of your 24 month apprenticeship you will:

You will have:
•Level 2 qualifications (equivalent to 5 GCSEs)

•As an apprentice you will receive training to help you gain the knowledge, skills and behaviors needed to be competent in your role.
•You will need to keep a detailed calendar, record dates, times, locations and details of every training session.
•Six hours a week you will undergo on the job learning, which will be in all areas of the Asset Investment Team
•You will have a 1-2-1 once a month with your external skills trainer.
•You will undergo a progress review every 10-12 weeks
•The apprenticeship will last 15 months, at the end of which you be a qualified Building Surveying Apprentice.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for apprenticeship funding you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- You must have been a resident in the UK, or EEA, Switzerland, or Gibraltar if you are an EEA national with pre-settled status in the EUSS, for at least the previous three years (you will be asked to provide evidence of this)
- You must not hold a qualification at the same level or higher in the same subject
- You will need to be 18 or older at the start of the apprenticeship
