You'll be based at HMS Excellent, home to the Naval Headquarters and front-line training units. From here, the Royal Navy directs operations, develops strategy, and delivers training that keeps the Fleet ready for any challenge. It is a hub of leadership, coordination, and expertise at the heart of naval command.

You will contribute to core month‑end activities, ensuring the integrity of financial data and providing insight to support the production of high‑quality financial reports. This includes maintaining accurate reporting within corporate systems and supporting the preparation of accounting entries.
Key responsibilities:
Providing insight and supporting financial reporting
- Produce standardised reports and dashboards to support monthly financial reviews and annual budgeting cycle activity
- Provide clear, timely insight and supporting analysis to the Business, Finance Leadership Team (FLT), and wider Finance community
- Support the collation of the Navy Command Nuclear In‑Year (IY) and annual budgeting cycle financial position
Working flexibly across business areas
- While team members may support specific business areas, all are expected to work flexibly across the wider organisation and provide cover as required
- This role will initially support the Submarines Directorate; however, post holders may be required to support other areas over time in line with business priorities
- The Submarines Directorate plays a critical role in delivering the Submarine Enterprise, contributing to the Defence Nuclear mission that underpins the UK’s continuous at sea deterrent and wider defence capability
Building effective stakeholder relationships
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with budget holders, stakeholders, and delivery partners
- Act as a first point of contact for financial queries, resolving issues wherever possible and escalating where appropriate
- Seek advice and guidance from Finance Business Partners where specialist input is required
Providing challenge, scrutiny, and analysis
- Contribute to the development and review of business cases, investment appraisals, and other strategic submissions
- Provide constructive challenge, identifying risks, issues, and opportunities to improve value for money
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, controls, and governance requirements
- Undertake financial scrutiny of business cases (up to £5m), ensuring proposals are robust, consider wider impacts, and are supported by appropriate risk assessment
We value flexible ways of working. This role requires regular onsite attendance (around 60% of the working week) to benefit from face-to-face collaboration, while offering flexibility of hours to support work life balance and business needs. During the initial period, you may be asked to attend more frequently to get familiar with the site, team, and responsibilities of what you'll be doing.
