There are two positions available, a full time position (37 hours per week) and a part time position (10 hours per week). Please state on your application what post you would like to apply for, applicants can apply for both if they wish.
To supervise and control the day to day requirements of Markets operating in the Medway towns to ensure agreed operational procedures are followed and adhered to and monitor Security, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Trading Standards and any other issues that may arise within the Markets, as required, during the hours of operation in the following towns.
The postholder will be expected to carry out their duties with due regard to Medway Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and wherever necessary apply the Council’s Best Value criteria to ensure client satisfaction at all times.
The post holder appointed to the full time position will be required to work the hours below:
Strood (Saturday & Tuesday) (Set up from 7.00am) 9.00am to 3.30pm
Gillingham (Saturday & Monday) (Set up from 7.00am) 9.00am to 5.00pm
Rochester Farmers Market (Sunday) (Set up from 7.00am) 9.00am to 1.00pm
plus any other themed Markets introduced by Medway Council in the future on an ad-hoc basis.
The post holder appointed to the part time position will be required to work the hours below:
Gillingham (Saturday) (Set up from 7.00am) 9.00am to 5.00pm
Applicants must hold/have the following:
- Specifically, demonstrable ability to communicate authoritatively and convey information clearly and confidently within a street markets environment, manage and record financial transactions, and recommend procedural improvements to the operation of the market/s
- Excellent communication and customer skills, whether talking to suppliers, colleagues, markets traders or their customers. An ability to ‘sell’ the market and be the positive external representative to grow their popularity.
