Job description

Join a role where your analytical expertise makes a genuine difference to national security. As a Senior Analyst supporting the MDP, you will play a critical part in defending the homeland and securing critical national infrastructure for Defence. You’ll lead on assuring the quality and consistency of intelligence analysis against national standards, driving innovation and best practice across the organisation. Your insight will inform how analytical capability is prioritised and deployed, ensuring that high‑quality, evidence‑based products support decision‑making at strategic, tactical, and operational levels—directly contributing to the mitigation of threat, risk, and harm.

You will manage both your own analytical workload and oversee the delivery of your team, ensuring the production of high-quality tactical and strategic outputs in line with the National Intelligence Model. This includes enabling analysts to work effectively with large, complex data sets to identify threat patterns, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for investigation and disruption, while ensuring outputs are clear and visually effective. You will lead the development and delivery of key force products, including the Strategic Threat and Risk Assessment (STRA), Tactical Assessments, Control Strategy development, and TTCG briefings, ensuring analysis supports prioritisation of threats, locations, and individuals impacting Defence. You will also oversee the development and maintenance of the Force Intelligence Picture. In collaboration with intelligence, operational, and investigative leads, you will ensure analysis supports both immediate operational activity and long-term strategic direction.

This is also a highly collaborative and forward‑looking position. You’ll build strong partnerships with colleagues across agencies, enabling the sharing of data, insight, and approaches to support a truly integrated intelligence environment. At the same time, you’ll remain at the forefront of the profession by identifying and implementing emerging techniques, tools, and innovations in intelligence analysis. Supported by formal training pathways such as National Intelligence Analysis Training (NIAT), Government Intelligence Analyst Training (GIAT), Defence Intelligence Analyst Module (DIAM), or equivalent programmes, alongside recognised professional accreditation or substantial practitioner experience, you’ll be part of a culture that values continuous development and analytical excellence. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced analyst ready to lead, influence, and drive meaningful change in a dynamic and mission‑focused environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide quality assurance against national standards in intelligence and analysis for analytical support across the organisation to drive innovation and best practice.
  • Inform decision making around the prioritised deployment of the analytical capability to ensure effective analysis is undertaken and understood, and ensure analytical support is provided at a strategic, tactical and operational level to mitigate threat, risk and harm.
  • Ensure analytical products are informed and developed as a result of consultation and feedback with key stakeholders, customers and the wider organisation.
  • Enable collaboration with colleagues in partner agencies to share data and analysis to facilitate cross-sector working practices.
  • Maintain awareness of innovation within intelligence to ensure implementation of latest techniques and tactics, best practice, and information relevant to the role.

Person specification

  • Experience in leading or supervising analytical teams, including tasking, quality assurance, and developing staff capability.
  • Demonstrable experience producing and overseeing high-quality tactical and strategic analytical products, including threat and risk assessments.
  • Experience working with large, complex, and multiple data sources, applying advanced analytical techniques to identify patterns, trends, and vulnerabilities.
  • Experience of informing and influencing decision-making at a senior level, including briefing leadership and contributing to prioritisation decisions.
  • Experience of working within a tasking and coordination environment (e.g. TTCG / NIM), ensuring intelligence drives operational activity and resource allocation.
  • Experience developing or contributing to force-wide or organisational intelligence products, such as STRA and control strategies.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with operational leads, investigators, and external partners across policing, defence, or government.
  • Experience maintaining oversight of a Force Intelligence Picture or equivalent, ensuring a clear understanding of current and emerging threats.
