
Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration - National
Job summary
As a Modern Apprentice within the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), you’ll play a vital part in supporting the prosecution of crime in Scotland, whilst working towards a recognised qualification.You will work in partnership with the police, courts and other justice organisations to deliver justice fairly, independently and in the public interest. You will join one of our Local Court teams, providing administrative support that helps cases progress efficiently and fairly through the justice system.
Job description
You will be employed in a permanent administrative role subject to the successful completion of the Modern Apprenticeship programme. Your Modern Apprenticeship will require commitment, effective time management and active participation in both the workplace and learning elements of the programme. You will be given a full induction in the first few weeks where the objectives and expectations of the programme will be outlined.
While duties will vary depending on the office you are based in, the role will typically involve:
- Supporting the administrative work of legal and operational staff
- Managing and updating case information accurately and securely
- Communicating respectfully with colleagues and members of the public
- Organising your own workload, managing priorities and meeting deadlines
Please note this is not an exhaustive list and other duties will be required of the post holder.
Alongside your day‑to‑day duties, you will work towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) relevant to your role.
You will:
- Be allocated protected time within your working week to focus on SVQ evidence and learning
- Have regular contact with an SVQ assessor
- Be expected to attend required workshops, training sessions and reviews
- Be responsible for engaging fully with the programme and meeting agreed timescales
As our work is delivering justice to victims and witnesses of crime, your role may involve being exposed to potentially challenging material and conversations (within reason).

- Commitment and interest in completing the Modern Apprenticeship programme including the Scottish Vocational Qualification
