This vacancy offers an outstanding opportunity to work in the Office of the Commandant General Royal Marines (OCGRM) who enable the Commandant General of the Royal Marines (CGRM) to ensure the well-being of the moral and ethical component of fighting power of the Royal Marines and acts as the focal point for the Regimental side of the Royal Marines within Navy Command.
You'll be based at HMS Excellent, home to the Naval Headquarters and front-line training units. From here, the Royal Navy directs operations, develops strategy, and delivers training that keeps the Fleet ready for any challenge. It is a hub of leadership, coordination, and expertise at the heart of naval command.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The primary purpose of the Corps Secretary is to manage, oversee and direct staff support relating to the regimental affairs of the Royal Marines on behalf of CGRM. The post is responsible for maintaining regimental affairs policy, providing advice, managing designated key elements of the Corps Programme and delivering specified outputs including the Globe & Laurel Magazine and the management of Corps Property, so that the traditions, ethos and reputation of the Royal Marines are maintained.
Coordinate the delivery of Royal Navy In the Public Eye events – specifically high-profile Royal Marines events.
Chair, coordinate and implement actions from RM Regimental committees.
Record changes to Royal Marines policy in the relevant BRs.
Lead and run elements of the OCGRM team including both military and civilian staff as well as exercising local in year financial and programmatic leadership.
Regular national and potentially some international travel is required

Person specification
Due to the nature of this role and working in close partnership with the Armed Forces, there are particular skills, functional competencies and a detailed knowledge of military practices required. This does not necessarily mean candidates must have served within the Armed Forces but they will need to demonstrate suitable experience or knowledge of the following elements during the selection process.
- Have an in-depth understanding of naval (including RM) and military terminology plus current naval and RM organisation, roles and rank structures.
- Have a good knowledge of RM history, traditions and ethos.
- Have a high level of experience in the management of people and teams, and preparation of accurate written and verbal reports.
- Have a high standard of written English, including spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Apps: Outlook, Teams, Word, OneNote, Excel and PowerPoint.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement.
