Job summary

On behalf of Dir FGen, the ‘Force Plans & Integration’ sub-directorate coheres and integrates RN Force Level Outputs (Carrier Strike, Littoral Strike, Forward Presence and Homeland Defence), it schedules the Fleet and programmes maritime activity.

The CS Readiness & Reporting Analyst’s (RRA) primary purpose is to provide Business Intelligence (BI), Management Information (MI) and Analysis support for FGEN PLANS and as required, the wider NCHQ and Head office stakeholder community. Primary activities include routine and ad hoc data analysis to meet the Management Information (MI) and Business Intelligence (BI) requirements of key stakeholders primarily covering Scheduling and Operational Capability related demands but across other data areas as required.

The RRAs activities also include oversight of the maintenance and periodic technical refresh of associated scheduling and operational capability database systems and ensuring that BI/MI activities are aligned with wider MoD Policy and Direction. The RRA is also responsible for the development and maintenance of key FGEN PLANS information websites on Defence Sharepoint.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

  • Navy Scheduling Service (NSS) Application: Support the development and continued improvement of NSS, and the design and development of offline support applications including:

Undertake analysis as requested for a variety of key stakeholders including urgent Parliamentary Questions (PQ).
Maintain the automated Gantt visualisation solution for corporate reporting.
Undertake data cleansing activity for legacy Force Programme data.

  • Manage the Operational Capability Reporting Systems (FOCAS and PRISM): Support the ongoing development, deployment and use of FOCAS & PRISM(MORS) including development and delivery of bespoke reporting products using Palantir Foundry. In addition, exploit data from FOCAS & PRISM including development and delivery of bespoke products using MS Access, MS Access and Palantir Foundry. Information and analysis to support the readiness assessment of RN/RM Units and Force Elements.

  • Support the implementation (and then manage) the Defence Readiness System (Maritime): Be the FGEN PLANS focal point to support of the development, rollout and use of the Defence Readiness System (DRS) application which includes control and access across the MC and delivery of basic user training. This will draw on data from FOCAS/PRISM and NSS.
  • Maintain and develop offline scheduling and OC databases: Continuous development and upgrading of legacy offline scheduling and operational capability databases to support a wide variety of routine and ad-hoc MI and BI requests.
  • Analyst Support for PQ, FOI, Corporate/Senior Management and Ad Hoc Data requests: Support data requests including the development and delivery of bespoke analysis and query products using the offline scheduling databases via MS Access, MS Excel and Palantir Foundry.
  • Support Business Intelligence and Analysis Requests: Undertake requests from a variety of key stakeholders for complex analysis fusing data from FOCAS, PRISM, NSS, FOMO OPDEF database using MS Access, MS Excel and Palantir Foundry.
  • FGEN Plans Information Websites: Develop and maintain appropriate Official Sensitive and Secret websites to facilitate information sharing and training for FGEN PLANS resource / products and the DRS Maritime application.

Person specification

This is a challenging role, and you will need to be a swift learner, with the ability to deliver authoritative complex analysis products in very demanding timescales to satisfy the needs of the Team, key NCHQ stakeholders, the wider MoD and periodic Ministerial, Parliamentary and Freedom of Information Requests. Knowledge and experience within the MOD, and particularly the Royal Navy, would be a significant advantage and be considered at interview. Some 80% of the job is database and data analysis related.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement.
