Net Zero Projects Officer
This role is fixed term until end of March 2027 with the potential to extend subject to funding.
About the Role
This is an opportunity for a motivated individual with a genuine passion for climate action to join a hands‑on team delivering Net Zero projects across the North West. As a Net Zero Projects Officer, you’ll support the North West Net Zero Hub, local authorities and community organisations to develop project proposals, build the evidence base for investment, seek funding and make a compelling case for action to decision‑makers. You’ll also contribute to research, coordination, reporting and digital engagement, helping to showcase progress and strengthen our regional impact. We are looking for someone enthusiastic, ambitious and keen to develop their career in the Net Zero sector—someone who wants to grow their skills while helping to make a meaningful difference to communities across the North West.
The North West Net Zero Hub Team is a group of project development, energy and environmental sector professionals who lead on some of the most exciting and transformational projects across the North West. The Team is based within the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority engaging with partners in the North West and Nationwide.
About the Person
You will have a strong interest in climate change, Net Zero and the role of public and community‑led action. You will be motivated by outcomes, not just outputs, and able to explain why this work matters to people and places across the North West.
You will bring either a relevant undergraduate degree (or degree‑level apprenticeship) in energy, environmental studies or a related field, or a clear willingness to undertake relevant training. You will be committed to continuous personal and professional development and keen to grow your skills in project delivery, analysis and stakeholder working.
You will be confident managing your own workload and deadlines, using initiative and sound judgement in a fast‑paced environment. You will be comfortable working with qualitative and quantitative information, able to analyse data, identify patterns and trends, and draw clear, well‑reasoned conclusions.
Strong communication skills are essential. You will be able to present ideas clearly in writing and verbally, adapting your style for different audiences. You will be an effective team member, able to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners, while also taking responsibility for your own work.
You will be proactive, organised and resilient under pressure, with excellent IT skills (including Microsoft Office and collaborative platforms such as Teams and SharePoint). You will also demonstrate a clear commitment to equality, inclusion and public‑sector values.
