Job Introduction

Occupational Therapist – Better Care At Home Service (BCaH)

Full Time, Permanent

Pay £38,220 - £46,142 pro rata, per annum (pay award pending)

Our new Better Care at Home Service is a dynamic and exciting opportunity to showcase Occupational Therapy in Social Care and the benefits or optimising independence and reducing manual handling of people.

Better Care at Home (BCaH) is a key improvement programme within Solihull Adult Social Care, focused on maximising independence, reducing avoidable manual handling and improving outcomes for adults, carers and the Council. This is an exciting, and rare opportunity to help shape and embed a service that strengthens Occupational Therapy practice and supports safe, dignified care at home.

We are looking for full time Occupational Therapists to join the launch of this service to improve moving and handling assessments, decision making and practice.

These OTs are delivery focused and outcome driven. You will complete high quality moving and handling risk assessments that optimise independence, minimise unnecessary handling and support safe, effective care arrangements.

You will work directly with adults, carers and care providers, applying recognised techniques and appropriate equipment, and challenging unsafe or ineffective practice where required. A clear focus on achieving positive outcomes for individuals, carers and the wider system is essential.

The role involves close working with Adult Social Care teams, NHS colleagues involved in discharge and community services, and care providers to establish and embed consistent practice with shared standards. You will contribute to promoting good practice across Occupational Therapy services and demonstrating the benefits of reduced handling, including improved independence, reduced risk and cost avoidance.

Applicants must have demonstrable experience of completing moving and handling assessments with successful outcomes. Experience of approaches to reducing manual handling, including single handed care models, is desirable.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we offer an environment of supportive colleagues and management who recognise the value of OT. This is an opportunity for passionate and dynamic Occupational Therapists.

We also offer:

  • A range of flexible working options including a flexi-time scheme
  • Generous annual leave entitlements with the opportunity to purchase up to 10-days additional leave per year
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24-hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service
  • Family and carer friendly policies
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Employee benefits including staff discounts, subsidised travel passes and Cycle 2 Work Scheme
  • A good training offer to support your learning and development needs.

To be successful for this post, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A Diploma or BSc (or World Federation of Occupational Therapy equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
  • Awareness of current relevant legislation
  • Good communication skills.
  • Awareness of assistive technology, technology enabled care and current IT systems.
  • Understanding of the provision of daily living equipment, and environmental adaptations and supporting people with moving and handling needs.

You will also hold a driving licence and own your own vehicle as this is an essential car user post due to the demands of the job. For disabled applicants, reasonable adjustments will be made where required.
