Job description

The Operational Resource Manager role is crucial in managing the day-to-day operational resource activities within GIAA, ensuring effective staff utilisation and timely allocation to engagements. The Operational Resource Manager (ORM) will focus on resource allocation within their Directorate, working closely with other ORMs to address immediate resource needs, manage updates and in-year changes, and ensure equitable workload distribution.

Taking responsibility for producing management information, analysing trends, and supporting operational performance across the Directorate the role includes workforce planning, maintaining accurate resource data, and assisting with contractor onboarding to enable effective decision-making.

The post holder will require strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage workloads, coordinate across teams, and resolve operational issues. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and maintaining consistent resource deployment.

This role suits a proactive, adaptable individual with strong attention to detail, focused on supporting efficient audit delivery.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Managing day-to-day resource allocation, matching staff to tasks based on skills and availability, and adjusting in real time to meet business needs..
  • Collaborating with Heads of Internal Audit and other Engagement Leads to respond quickly to shifting priorities and adjust resource assignments accordingly.
  • Monitor resource capacity and utilisation, using data to identify gaps or surpluses, coordinate short-term solutions, and provide regular insights to support management decision-making.
  • Maintaining and updating the resource management system with accurate, real-time information on staff availability, skills, and task progress.
  • Supporting operational workforce activities such as recruitment and onboarding to meet immediate staffing requirements.
  • Serve as the day to day point of contact for operational teams and senior stakeholders regarding resource-related issues and act promptly to resolve conflicts or workload imbalances.
  • Promoting improvements in resource coordination practices, utilising available technology and tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Working closely with suppliers and partners to ensure contracted services meet operational needs and deliver value.
  • Providing clear and timely communication to teams, explaining resource decisions and changes in straightforward and actionable terms.
  • Supporting open communication across teams, addressing challenges with clarity and confidence to maintain effective operations.

Person specification

  1. Knowledge of resourcing methodologies, workforce planning, and capability development.
  2. Understanding of how to manage differing client needs, priorities, and related commercial considerations.
  3. Awareness of how to produce and discuss team metrics, chargeability statistics, and workforce MI.
  4. Inputting to and supporting change at a team and organisational level, adopting a continuous improvement approach which contributes to the wider corporate responsibilities of the organisation.

Eligibility Statement

To allow for meaningful checks to be carried out, applicants will need to have lived in the UK for at least 3 out of the past 5 years. In exceptional circumstances, for example if you have been working abroad on a government posting, a lack of residency would not be a bar to security clearance however the Department will need to consider eligibility on a case-by-case basis once the advert closing date has passed.
