Our Operational Support Officers work as a pooled resource within the Wales Regional Support Unit, providing consistent, high‑quality administrative, organisational and analytical support to the regional Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This is a varied and fast‑paced role that offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and support a broad range of RSU functions. The role contributes to progressing regional business and includes collating and analysing operational and people‑related information across the region to help inform service improvement and staff engagement.

Your role
As an Operational Support Officer, you will provide consistent, high‑quality administrative and personal support to the Regional SLT. You will act as a central coordination point for activity across the region: managing information, analysing data, supporting meetings, and ensuring leadership time is used effectively.
This role requires excellent organisation, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage competing demands in a fast‑moving environment. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across regional functions including Operations, People, and Performance, contributing to effective decision‑making and service improvement.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience
- Interpersonal skills to deal with queries on behalf of SLT members, and engage with stakeholders internally and externally, including the judiciary at all levels.
- Organisational and planning skills to support the work and diary commitments of the Regional Delivery Director, Heads of Operations, Service Improvement & Performance Lead, and to help support the activities of the Head of RSU, People Lead and Performance Lead.
- Project delivery skills to help support the delivery of ad hoc regional projects.
- Analytical skills to analyse and interpret regional data and provide useful insight to help drive operational delivery across the region.
- Good understanding of the operation and region is desirable to be able to provide operational context to delivery of plans etc.
- Good communications skills, written and verbal, with knowledge of Microsoft office (training will be given).

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.
These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.
The standard full‑time working week is 37 hours. HMCTS supports part‑time, flexible and job‑share working arrangements where these meet the requirements of the role and wider business needs, and where they are agreed prior to appointment. All requests for alternative working patterns will be considered in line with the Ministry of Justice Flexible Working Policy.
However, this specific post is business‑critical and requires full‑time working hours only.
Location- Cardiff Magistrates Court, Fitzalan Place, Cardiff, CF24 0RZ
Travel - Occasional travel may be required to support management meetings.
Lead Criterion: A sift based on the statement of suitability may be held if a large number of applications are received.
