Are you an enthusiastic, creative and inclusive classroom teacher who wants to make a real difference in a caring community school? Join Swalwell Primary School where “Working together, learning together” is lived every day. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach Year 3/4 in a school that values every pupil, champions rights, and supports staff wellbeing and professional growth.

Swalwell Primary is a one-form-entry maintained primary school in Gateshead (NE16 3HZ) with Nursery and specialist SEN provision, including Additional Resource Mainstream Schools (ARMS) for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Physical Disabilities. We are a fully inclusive school where pupils’ rights are central to everything we do:
• The right to learn, be safe, be heard, be happy and be me
• A broad, engaging curriculum designed to develop pupils academically, emotionally and socially
Our school vision is simple: every child has the right to become the best they possibly can be. We place pupils at the heart of our work and strive to grow resilience, determination and self-belief.

We are looking for an outstanding Year 3/4 Class Teacher on a fixed-term contract from 1 January 2027 to 31 August 2029. This full-time role will involve:
• Planning and delivering high-quality, inclusive lessons that meet the needs of a diverse range of learners, including pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
• Promoting positive behaviour and a supportive classroom culture where every pupil feels valued and able to succeed
• Assessing pupil progress and using assessment to inform teaching and intervention
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals to maximise outcomes for pupils
• Contributing to whole-school priorities, including oracy development and curriculum improvement

We would love to hear from teachers who:
• Are excellent classroom practitioners with high expectations for learning, behaviour and achievement
• Are passionate about inclusion and experienced (or eager to develop expertise) in meeting the needs of pupils with SEND, ASD and physical needs
• Can build positive, professional relationships with pupils, families and colleagues and work collaboratively as part of a supportive staff team
• Use creative, flexible approaches to engage learners and develop their communication and confidence
• Want to grow professionally, contribute to curriculum development and potentially lead a subject area

We can offer:
• A genuinely inclusive school community and enthusiastic, respectful pupils who are eager to learn
• Supportive leadership committed to staff wellbeing: strategic CPD, streamlined systems, shared resources and a focus on teaching over administration
• Opportunities for professional development and leadership growth within a collaborative team and strong governance
• A chance to make a measurable impact in a school improving attendance, inclusion and curriculum outcomes

Swalwell Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects all staff to share this commitment. If successful you will be required to undergo all relevant pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list check, online/social media checks, verification of identity, qualifications and professional status, right to work checks and satisfactory health clearance where appropriate.
Please note: we will only accept referees’ work email addresses and the current or most recent employer MUST be provided as your first referee; all references will be taken up and verified prior to interview.

Visits to the school are encouraged, Visits will be held on Tuesday 13 October at 1.30am and Wednesday 7 October at 5.00pm. Please contact the school to arrange it.
