The Met Office is delighted to open our advertising for Apprenticeships 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office as a Paralegal Apprentice for up to 21 months commencing at the start of September 2026. You will develop skills and workplace experience in this occupation which may lead to a permanent position on successful completion of your apprenticeship or the knowledge to gain employment within the wider industry.

As our Paralegal Apprentice the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. As apprentices are part of our Early Careers Programme, there is the expectation you attend the office once a week as a minimum in addition to your study day.

This apprenticeship can offer you the support, training and industry recognised qualifications to get you on the path to a career in the Legal Profession.

Our Legal Team plays a central role in supporting the organisation, providing clear, practical advice across areas such as contractual work, intellectual property licensing, regulatory matters and specialist legal research. As a Level 3 Paralegal Apprentice, you’ll be an active member of the team throughout the apprenticeship programme, contributing to real legal work that helps the Met Office deliver its aims. Alongside your day‑to‑day role, you’ll complete a qualification that builds your legal knowledge, core skills and professional capability—creating a strong foundation for future progression, whether into a paralegal role, further legal study or wider career pathways within the profession. This is a unique opportunity to gain meaningful experience while making a valuable impact from the very start.

Training delivery and support

We would look for you to join us in September 2026 with your apprenticeship training beginning shortly afterwards.

You will be managed by a line manager and have a mentor to offer further support. You will have on the job training and in house development opportunities during your apprenticeship.

You will have 1 day per week dedicated to your 20% off the job training with the training provider, Damar Training. They will deliver the off the job training in a face to face online style. You will have a tutor(s) delivering learning sessions covering 14 modules in 6-week modules. Adhoc coaching is also available as required. You will also have regular review meetings with your coach and line manager every 12 weeks.

As well as the taught content, there will be a large amount of self-study, regular assignments, and an end-point assessment period. You must be committed to your own development and training as this element forms a significant aspect of a modern apprenticeship.

Your key duties:

  • Engage fully with your apprenticeship training programme, making the most of expert learning sessions, coaching and practical opportunities. Complete all modules, activities and assessments on time, building confidence and capability as you progress
  • Apply your growing legal knowledge to real cases and tasks, working both independently and alongside experienced colleagues. As your confidence develops, you’ll take on increasing responsibility and play an active role in helping the team meet its objectives
  • Maintain accurate apprenticeship records, including a logbook and portfolio or work, capturing the projects and experiences that demonstrate your development. This will showcase how your learning has translated into real-world legal work.
  • Successfully complete your end‑point assessment, demonstrating the professional behaviours, legal knowledge and technical skills needed to achieve your Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship and take the next step in your legal career.

Person specification

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  1. Interest in Law: You can demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for working in a legal environment and are motivated to Keep Evolvingto build your skills and grow in the profession. (Lead Criteria)
  2. Qualifications: You’ll need at least five GCSEs at grades A*–C / 9–4 (or equivalent qualification), including English and Maths.
  3. Communication Skills: You can share information clearly - whether writing simply, talking through an idea, or working with others to solver problems. You’re comfortable communicating with a wide range of people and bring a Better Togethermindset to conversations.
  4. Organised & Proactive: You can manage your own workload. You Live and Breathe It by keeping on top of what needs doing and following through to make things happen.
  5. Problem Solver: You Live and Breathe It by being naturally curious and comfortable breaking down problems and helping to find practical solutions.

The panel may perform a preliminary sift of the lead criteria as indicated above.

Desirable Criteria

1. Further Study: Able to demonstrate further study such as A-Levels, BTEC National Diploma or an equivalent qualification.

As our Paralegal Apprentice Level 3, your starting salary will be £23,400 and you will have the opportunity to progress to £24,700 over time.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £33,434 annually, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

  • Are applying for an apprenticeship that is unrelated to any qualifications you already hold at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship.
  • Are living in England at the time the apprenticeship commences
