What we’re looking for
Adult Learning Lewisham requires an experienced and committed Upholstery tutor to join the existing Textiles team from April 2026. Extensive knowledge of both traditional and modern Upholstery techniques is essential, and additional Soft Furnishing skills would be an advantage, but not essential. The post is currently to teach one non-accredited evening course per week at the Granville Park centre- on either a Tuesday or Thursday. Courses usually run for three 10-week terms, with individual sessions of 2.5 hours duration (but there could be some flexibility around this). There will also potentially be the opportunity for cover work for other classes & to apply for any additional Upholstery and Soft Furnishing based classes that may be added to the programme due to increased demand.

The post requires a tutor who can:
- Deliver all aspects of practical Upholstery classes of up to ten adult learners of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities (from complete beginners through to improvers of all levels)
- Plan & produce course documentation to support their teaching & learning – for example, scheme of work, lesson plan, electronic registers and developing resources for the course online learning environment.
- Support the learners to develop the set course & individual learning goals and complete the relevant online documentation for this.
- Regularly attend tutor meetings and complete ongoing CPD
Applicants must have recognised subject qualifications up to at least level 4 and ideally have teaching experience in an adult learning environment. They would preferably have either professional industry experience, and/or be self-employed in the field- and must also be willing to gain a recognised adult teaching qualification if they do not already have one. The Granville Park centre is a 2-minute walk from both Lewisham train and DLR stations and numerous regular bus links. There is also free parking close by, but not directly on-site.
