Job summary

The Corporate Services Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Communications, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Private Office, Security, Estates and Information.
Job description
The Pass Team is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Administrative Officer (AO) to support the delivery of secure pass and access control services at 2 Marsham Street (2MS). Working as part of a busy operational team, you will be responsible for issuing Home Office passes, processing access requests, and providing a professional front-line service to staff, contractors and visitors.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring processes are completed accurately and securely.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Processing pass applications, renewals, replacements and returns in line with Home Office security policies and procedures.
- Providing a professional face-to-face service at the pass office counter, assisting staff, contractors and visitors with pass-related enquiries.
- Managing and responding to enquiries received through shared mailboxes, ensuring requests are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Carrying out identity and document checks to support the pass issuance process and maintain accurate records.
- Supporting the management of access control permissions, ensuring requests are appropriately authorised and processed.
- Handling sensitive personal and security-related information confidentially and in accordance with data protection requirements.
- Assisting with routine administrative tasks, reporting requirements and the maintenance of operational records.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, Local Security Officers, Facilities Management and other stakeholders to support the delivery of a secure and efficient service.
Working pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
Please note remote or hybrid working is not available due to the nature of duties.
Training
Training on Home Office access control systems will be provided.

Essential criteria
You must be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to follow established processes accurately.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and use initiative when required.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in an administrative, customer service or operational role.
- Experience working within a security, access control or pass administration environment.
- Knowledge of access control systems or identity credentialing processes.

1. Online Test – by 22nd October 2026.
If you successfully pass the Judgement Test, you will be invited to complete the full application form. Please complete the online test as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended). 2. Application – by 22nd October 2026.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete:
- a CV.
- Personal Statement (maximum 500 words).
- Evidence of the Behaviour Making Effective Decisions (maximum of 250 words).
Your CV should consist of your career history, qualifications, and skills/experience, including any key achievements in each role. Your CV will be scored against the experience required for the role as noted within the essential criteria.
The Personal Statement should be aligned to and demonstrate how you meet the skills and experience set out in the essential criteria, detailed in the job description.

3. Sift – 26th October 2026.
The sift will be held on the Personal Statement, CV, and the Behaviour Making Effective Decisions.
Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the Personal Statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of all the remaining elements submitted (CV and Lead Behaviour). Candidates who fail to meet the minimum pass score for the initial sift will not have their remaining submitted elements scored and will only receive a sift score for that assessed at the initial sift.
4. Interview – 16th November 2026.
If you are successful at the sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviour based and Strength based questions.
The interview will take place online via MS Teams.
