Job summary
The Pathfinder Vetting Manager is responsible for managing and controlling access to the Pathfinder Building and other station locations. This role ensures that all personnel and visitors are authorised, hold the appropriate security clearances, and have a valid business requirement to access designated areas. They must ensure visitors have a legitimate business need before granting access and facilitate efficient and timely access in a busy, fast-paced, customer facing environment. They will need to ensure that they maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive customer and organisational information. The vetting manager will collaborate with security and wider administrative teams to uphold access control policies and procedures and work efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines. The role is vital to ensuring the safety, security and smooth operation of Pathfinder Building.
This role is advertised at 37 hours per week (unless part time)

Main Responsibilities:
1. Oversight of Vetting Processes:
Manage and oversee all vetting activities within the STRAP/security clearance environment, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and security standards.
2. Team Leadership and Coordination:
Lead and supervise the vetting team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and accurate processing of vetting applications.
3 Access Control Management:
Ensure that only personnel and visitors with appropriate clearances and valid business requirements are granted access to sensitive areas, maintaining strict adherence to STRAP protocols.
4. Continuous Improvement:
Review and improve vetting procedures and systems to enhance efficiency, security, and customer service within the security clearance environment.
5. Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with internal departments, security teams, and external agencies to coordinate vetting activities, resolve issues, and ensure smooth communication

Person specification
The ideal candidate for the Vetting Manager role in a STRAP environment will have proven experience in vetting, security clearance, or access control management, preferably within a STRAP or similar security framework. They will have a track record of managing teams in fast-paced, security-sensitive settings and possess a strong understanding of relevant security policies, procedures, and data protection regulations. Experience handling confidential and sensitive information is essential.
Essential criteria:
- Proficiency in IT systems related to vetting and security management, inc good knowledge in using Microsoft office
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive data.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work, with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service.
- Experience managing and leading a team in a fast-paced, security-sensitive environment.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of integrity and discretion.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines accurately whilst working under pressure.
Desirable criteria:
- Previous experience working specifically within a STRAP environment or similar high-security government or defence settings.
- Formal qualifications or training in business administration, security management, vetting, or risk assessment.
- Experience liaising with external agencies or government departments on security and vetting matters.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete the Defence STRAPSO course within the first year in the role.
Due to the nature of this role, hybrid working is not suitable; therefore, 100% office attendance is required.
