The starting salary for this role is £38,090 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

We have an opportunity to join our Surrey Pension Team (SPT) as a Pensions Investment & Governance Officer and make a significant contribution to the success of the service. This role offers hybrid working opportunities, with attendance at our office in Weybridge expected at least one day per week.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Surrey Pension Team and play a key role in supporting the governance and investment activities of one of the largest funds in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The Fund manages assets of over £7 billion on behalf of more than 130,000 members and approximately 500 employers.

As a Pensions Investment & Governance Officer, you will support the delivery of a wide range of investment and governance activities that help ensure the Fund operates effectively, efficiently and in line with regulatory requirements. Working closely with colleagues across the Pension Team and external stakeholders, you will contribute to governance reporting, committee and board support, investment administration, policy maintenance, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities are varied and include:

  • Supporting Pension Fund Committee and Local Pension Board reporting and meetings.
  • Maintaining records, policies, registers and action logs.
  • Coordinating governance, assurance and compliance activities.
  • Supporting the administration and monitoring of the Fund's private investment portfolio.
  • Gathering, analysing and presenting data to support decision making.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the Fund's Annual Report and other key publications.
  • Supporting projects and business improvement initiatives across the Investment and Governance function.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance processes and service delivery.

Over the next 12 months, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to several important projects and initiatives across governance and investment functions. This includes supporting governance developments, investment oversight activities, reporting enhancements, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement initiatives and work associated with the future evolution of the Fund's operating model.

  • A keen interest in investment, governance, committee administration, risk management, investment governance and public sector finance.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027. This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then. If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected. The provisional allocation for this post is Surrey Pensions Authority, subject to final confirmation through the wider transition process later this year.
