Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a People Advisor to join the Housing Ombudsman Service on a 12 month fixed term contract.

The People Advisor role sits within our People Operations function, delivering a proactive customer HR service across the Housing Ombudsman.

Job description

The successful candidate will work with direction from the People Manager and Business Partners to provide effective support, guidance and advice on a wide variety of HR issues including employee relations, policy and process, the People HR system and the delivery of key projects. Building and maintaining effective relationships across the People Team and with managers and employees, the postholder will also:

  • Advise and coach managers on the application and interpretation of HR policies and procedures in accordance with current and proposed employment legislation and local arrangements
  • Provide flexible support across the team during periods of absence and during periods of increased demand
  • Work in rota to ensure the People Inbox is covered and employees receive timely and accurate responses to their enquiries
  • Assist with the development and implemention of a range of People policies and guidance, contributing to associated learning.
  • Providing high quality advice and guidance to managers to facilitate the early resolution of difficult and/or sensitive employee relations issues.

Person specification

To be successful, you will have a CIPD level 5 or currently working towards, with previous experience of working in a People team.

During your application, you will be asked to declare you have the suitable experience and qualification, as well as statements evidencing the below criteria:

  • Previous experience of working in a People team, providing expert advice and guidance to employees and managers.
  • Experience of generating and analysing and providing narrative around data and reports.
  • A good understanding, developed through experience, of people policies and processes including contracts of employment, maternity, paternity, flexible working, disciplinary and grievance.
