Job description

Personal Assistant required (Female) to assist a lady in her 40s with management of her household, food preparation and physio exercises in her own home. She is a remote worker and works full time. She would also like support to attend her physio sessions and occasional medical appointments so a driver with access to a vehicle would be required. Although currently reliant on a wheelchair, she can stand and transfer into a regular car, and owns a lightweight, foldable travel wheelchair.

The role includes:

• Preparing evening meals and lunches (the lunches can be prepared the evening before where necessary).
• Keeping the house clean and tidy (to include hoovering, washing up, mopping floors, dusting and emptying bins).
• Being in the household while the lady takes a shower (she can shower independently, she just feels safer if there is someone available to help if needed).
• Supervision of physio homework.
• Making the bed and changing the bedding.
• Hanging washing on clothes line or drying on radiators in bad weather, putting clean clothes away when dry.
• Putting away weekly food shopping delivery (driver carries bags into property so no heavy lifting required).
• Occasional errands locally to places such as pharmacy or shop
• Taking the lady to some physio sessions and rarely medical appointments (both local/occasional).

Good communication skills and someone patient and caring would be a real advantage. The lady experiences speech difficulties and whilst understandable, she finds it a challenge to form her words, particularly when tired. She is happy to write task lists so that it is clear what needs doing each day but also understands that once the person knows the household and her that they can use their own judgement and common sense to navigate each session.

Care and attention to hygiene, especially when preparing and handling food, is essential. Somebody reliable and dependable would be very much appreciated.

There is flexibility within this role and the lady is very happy to work together to find common ground in terms of session times etc.

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post – Cost to be met by the local authority.
