About the role

We are seeking 2 dedicated professional Pest Control Officers and one Pest Control Officer/Trainee Pest Control Officer to join our Environmental Health Team. This role plays a vital role in protecting public health, housing standards, and community wellbeing by preventing and controlling pest infestations across the local area.

What will you be doing?

As a Pest Control Officer/Trainee Pest Control Officer, you will be responsible for delivering an effective, customer-focused pest management service to residents, businesses and council properties. You will carry out inspections, identify infestations, implement appropriate treatment plans, and provide expert advice on prevention and control measures.

Key responsibilities include responding to service requests, investigating complaints, and undertaking treatments for a range of pests including rodents, insects, and other public health pests. You will ensure all work is carried out in compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety standards and environmental best practice.

About you

The role involves regular interaction with members of the public, often in sensitive situations, so strong communication skills and a professional, empathetic approach are essential. You will also be required to maintain records, manage workloads efficiently and contribute to wider Environmental Health initiatives when needed.

This is a varied and rewarding position suited to someone who is practical, self-motivated, and committed to delivering high-quality public services.

Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a similar local authority or customer-facing environment is required for the Pest Control Officer(s) along with experience of working with baits, traps, poisons and pest control equipment, and relevant qualifications or a willingness to work towards them.

For the Trainee Pest Control position, experience in a similar local authority or customer-facing environment and willingness to work towards qualifications.

Full driving licence. Ability to cope with the physical demands required of the role and to work in confined spaces e.g., lofts and lifting medical waste.
