Job summary

The Pesticide Operational Support Team (POST), supports the Chemical Regulations Division in the processing and delivering of pesticide authorisations. The team is an operational delivery team that is responsible for processes for incoming applications, and the processing and issuing of all pesticide authorisations.

Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is seeking a proactive and collaborative leader to manage a team of up to eight operational support staff. This role is central to ensuring high-quality delivery and smooth operations.

The successful candidate will combine strong organisational skills with authentic leadership, ensuring the team meets regular deadlines and maintains accuracy in all processes. They will be comfortable with overseeing a busy email inbox through escalation and problem solving, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

They will be working with work area leads across POST, as well as sharing best practices across the delivery teams in the scope of applications inbox management and processes within CRD.

Primarily, the successful candidate will oversee and manage the team whose work involves co-ordinating complicated pesticide applications, including finance related tasks and invoicing. It will also include oversight of pesticide specific application work relating to Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) and decision making on applications of an administrative nature.

Working Pattern

Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week across a minimum of 4 days.

Travel

Occasional attendance to HSE’s head office (Bootle) may be required along with the potential requirement to visit other HSE sites .

Job description

This is a varied leadership role within POST that contributes to the delivery of pesticide authorisations. There will also be opportunities to get involved in and contribute to other areas of POST’s work.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will lead a team delivering high standards of service creating an inclusive and positive working environment.
  • You will have responsibility for the line management of up to 8 individuals.
  • You will share responsibility to manage incoming pesticide applications and oversight of leading a team in completing post-sift actions to a high quality in support of the Pesticide Product Team and Pesticide Active Substances Team.
  • You will have oversight of and support in the delivery of MRL work by the POST MRL team.
  • You will make decisions on the progress of pesticide applications that are of an administrative nature.

  • Be well organised, self-motivated and be able to adapt to changing priorities and whilst maintaining attention to detail.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills to convey key messages clearly with the ability to assimilate information from diverse sources.
