We are looking for a public health leader who can bring expertise, vision and influence to help shape this agenda across Wiltshire.
We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Public Health to work directly to the Director of Public Health and alongside consultant colleagues, to operate at a strategic level across local government, the NHS, voluntary sector organisations and wider system partners to improve population health and reduce inequalities. The role will involve influencing policy, shaping strategy, leading complex programmes and providing expert advice to elected members and senior leaders.
Portfolio Responsibilities
You will provide strategic leadership for:
· Health and Wellbeing Board development, helping shape Wiltshire's long-term approach to improving health and wellbeing.
· Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment leadership, ensuring robust evidence informs future service planning and access to pharmaceutical services.
· Neighbourhood Health development, working with NHS, local authority, voluntary sector and community partners to develop neighbourhood approaches that support prevention, integration and reduced inequalities.
· Corporate public health leadership, promoting a Health in All Policies approach and contributing to Cabinet reports and major council decision-making.
This unique portfolio sits at the intersection of local government leadership and the emerging neighbourhood health agenda, creating an opportunity to influence how services, communities and partners work together to improve outcomes for Wiltshire residents.
About You
You will:
· Be registered with the GMC, GDC or UKPHR Specialist Register.
· Be an experienced strategic leader and collaborator.
· Have the ability to influence across organisational and professional boundaries.
· Be comfortable working within a political environment.
· Be passionate about prevention, reducing inequalities and improving population health outcomes.

A message from Kate Blackburn, Director of Public Health
Thank you for your interest in joining Wiltshire's Public Health team.
This is a particularly exciting time to be working in public health. Nationally, we are seeing renewed focus on prevention, reducing health inequalities, strengthening local government leadership and developing neighbourhood approaches that bring services closer to the communities they serve. Locally, we have ambitious plans to build on Wiltshire's many strengths and further improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.
We are looking for an exceptional Consultant in Public Health who is motivated by making a difference at a population level and who thrives in complex, partnership environments. This role offers a rare opportunity to help shape how public services work together across the Wiltshire system.
The portfolio brings together several important and interconnected areas of work. Through leadership of the Health and Wellbeing Board, you will help shape our long-term strategic direction and ensure that health and wellbeing remain central to the decisions made across our partnership. Through leadership of our Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, you will provide the evidence and insight needed to support equitable access to services across a large and diverse county. Through neighbourhood health, you will help translate national ambition into local action, working with communities, NHS colleagues and local authority partners to develop approaches that improve outcomes, strengthen prevention and reduce inequalities.
Perhaps most importantly, this role offers the opportunity to champion a Health in All Policies approach across the council. As public health leaders, we know that health is created not only through healthcare services but through housing, transport, education, employment, the environment and the strength of our communities. We are looking for someone who can influence confidently across organisational boundaries and help ensure that improving health and reducing inequalities are embedded within everything we do.
Wiltshire is a fantastic place to live and work. We are a large, predominantly rural county with thriving market towns, unique communities and strong local partnerships. Our public health team is highly regarded, supportive and ambitious. We are proud of our commitment to professional development, innovation and collaborative leadership, and we work hard to create an environment where colleagues can thrive and make a meaningful impact.
If you are an experienced public health specialist who is passionate about improving population health, influencing strategic change and working in partnership to tackle inequalities, I would be delighted to hear from you.
I hope you will consider joining us and helping to shape the future of health and wellbeing in Wiltshire.
