- Provide high-quality advice to Ministers and senior officials on all OBR-related issues, using judgement to provide balanced advice on politically sensitive, high-profile and fast-moving developments
- Lead oversight of the OBR’s budget, working closely with HMT Finance to scrutinise performance against spending plans, advise senior leaders on financial risks and prepare for negotiations on the OBR’s budget at the next Spending Review.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with OBR counterparts, driving effective collaboration across HMT and the OBR, including as joint Secretariat for weekly meetings between senior officials at the OBR and HMT.
- Lead on the government’s public narrative with regards to the OBR, including briefing Ministers ahead of parliamentary appearances, drafting government responses to inquiries and responding to urgent press queries.
- Coordinate cross-cutting fiscal event and forecast processes, working across HM Treasury and with the OBR to agree the forecast timetable, deliver key briefing products and ensure an effective process for factchecking the OBR’s ‘Economic and Fiscal Outlook’.
- Contribute to Fiscal Statistics and Policy (FSP) team and the wider Fiscal Group. The post holder will help to ensure Fiscal Group is an excellent place to work, including contributing to corporate workstreams.
