Pendle Borough Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Engineer to lead the design, management and delivery of major civil engineering projects across the borough.
This senior role will see you deputising for the Engineering Manager, managing substantial budgets and representing the Council in negotiations with external partners. You’ll provide authoritative technical expertise, oversee complex infrastructure schemes and ensure innovative, cost-effective solutions that support the Council’s strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supervising engineering projects from design to delivery
- Providing professional advice to Members, senior officers and partners
- Mentoring and developing junior engineers, trainees and apprentices
- Managing contracts, budgets and health & safety compliance
- Driving innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery
We are looking for a highly motivated professional with strong leadership skills, excellent technical knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Pendle is in Lancashire’s scenic Pennines, close to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Manchester.

Salary range
- £42,839 - £46,142 per year
