Job description

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council are seeking an engaging and experienced public health professional with a strong understanding of the harms caused by drug and alcohol use, gambling, social exclusion and other health inequalities. You will work effectively with our communities, partners and services to develop prevention and harm reduction initiatives that improve health outcomes for our residents and tackle the causes of health inequality. Your work will use evidence and intelligence to identify local health needs and develop innovative solutions that deliver meaningful health improvement and support programmes across a wide range of settings including health services, schools, community organisations and local agencies.

You will:

• Design, develop and support the delivery of projects and programmes that improve the health and wellbeing of people experiencing health inequalities associated with drug and alcohol. use, gambling, social exclusion, and other inclusion health needs.
• Work with communities, partners and services to deliver prevention and health improvement activities.
• Use evidence-based approaches including the use of data to identify needs, understand trends and evaluate outcomes.
• Coordinate commissioning projects and contribute to service design and delivery across contract life cycles.
• Support training, engagement and awareness activities with professionals including community organisations and system partners.
• Lead real-time monitoring and surveillance activities through the Local Drug Intelligence System, and the review of learning from significant unexpected incidents including drug and alcohol related deaths, non-fatal overdoses and public health incidents.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Degree in Public Health or a related relevant subject, an equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline, or at least two years demonstrable experience in a public health or related service setting.
• Substantial knowledge and understanding of current issues relating to drug and alcohol use, gambling related harm, social exclusion and inclusion health needs.
• Experience of commissioning, developing and/or delivering public health services, projects or programmes.
• Experience of working and influencing within multi-agency partnerships and stakeholder environments.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret evidence, needs assessments and performance data to support decision-making.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver outcomes and respond effectively to emerging issues and risks.
• Knowledge of public health priorities, health inequalities and the wider health and care system
