Our Recycling & Refuse Loaders perform a key role in providing an excellent recycling and refuse collection service to the residents. Working with others in your refuse crew, you will ensure that the neighbourhoods in the Borough have their paper and mixed recycling, food waste, garden waste and refuse, regularly removed and disposed of responsibly.

It is essential that you are a team player and can communicate with your colleagues and customers, clearly and politely; showing a clear understanding of what good customer care is.

Compliance with health and safety guidance is very important for you, team members and the public, due to the heavy lifting machinery, dust and fumes. Guidance, training and personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided to all successful candidates.

Some of the duties include:

  • Collect recycling and refuse from residences and businesses in the Borough.
  • Assist collection of bulky household waste.
  • Advise customers of how to properly dispose of different types of waste, according to the Borough’s recycling & refuse protocols.
  • Assist in general duties in the Councils depot, such as cleaning and tidying the site.
  • Promote ideas for improving the Refuse & Recycling Services.

About the Person:

  • You will have the commitment to start work at 6am and work a 45-hour week Monday to Friday.
  • You must have the physical ability to walk in excess of 10 miles per day.
  • Your knowledge of Borough residential roads will be strong.
  • You will have the ability to learn, understand and carry out health and safety instructions.
  • You will demonstrate good customer care skills.

Staff Benefits

In exchange for your expertise, experience and enthusiasm, we will offer support in continuing your personal and career development, in addition to providing a wide range of employment linked benefits.

We provide you with competitive annual leave and contribute 15% towards the LGPS pension scheme. You will also have access to a range of discounts including local and high street stores, and salary sacrifice schemes including a cycle lease scheme, and ‘Better’ leisure centre membership.
