Starting Salary: £31,537 opportunity to progress to £34,434 per annum (pro rata for part time)

About the team

An exciting opportunity to join the busy team of Registrars at Hatfield Register Office. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and organised person to join us in delivering this vital service to the people of Hertfordshire.

About the role

The role involves registering key life events such as births, deaths and marriages. It also involves taking notices of marriage and conducting Marriages and Civil Partnerships, both in the register office and at licenced venues in the area.

You will be working in a busy office with a schedule of face-to-face appointments with members of the public. You will need to use excellent communication skills to extract key information and ensure the accuracy of the data recorded. You will also need strong presentation skills in order to be able to conduct ceremonies ranging from intimate celebrations to those with hundreds of guests.

There may be an opportunity to join the weekend ceremonies team and be paid sessional fees for weekend ceremony work.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills are essential. A good standard of general education is required, but previous experience is not essential as full training will be given to the right candidate.

About you

Essential:

  • Ability to understand complicated and detailed legislation, rules and procedures and interpret them to customers in emotional and sensitive situations.
  • Administrative skills – Must be able record facts and figures accurately,
  • Good standard of English and numeracy and the ability to write legibly and to spell correctly
  • Good ICT skills – proficient in the use of MS Teams, Word.
  • Good Organisational Skills – Ability to organise the work efficiently.
  • Good Planning Skills – ability to plan your day, week as necessary.
  • Attention to detail methodical approach

Desirable:

  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Registration experience with a sound knowledge of registration Law.
