You will be based at RNAS Culdrose, a front-line Air Station delivering Squadrons and personnel for operations worldwide. From Merlin helicopters conducting anti-submarine warfare to unmanned aerial vehicles shaping the future of aviation, Culdrose combines tradition with innovation. The Squadrons provide critical support to ships, task groups and missions across the globe.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Charge Books Officer (CBO) to join the Executive Team at RNAS Culdrose. This is a vital role at the heart of secure communications, where you will be responsible for the management, control, and protection of classified publications and cryptographic material. Working within the Communications and Information Systems (CIS) team, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of sensitive assets that support Royal Navy operations.
This role is ideal for someone from an administrative, logistics, records management, or security-focused background who takes pride in accuracy and confidentiality.
The post is responsible for the following key areas:
• Manage the receipt, dispatch, storage, and accounting of classified books and cryptographic material in line with strict security regulations and policies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date registers and records, ensuring compliance with Navy Command Security Regulations
• Support the Crypto Custodian and act as deputy when required, assisting with all aspects of cryptographic control and secure accounting procedures.
• Conduct inspections to ensure adherence to security procedures and maintain a strong security culture across the Air Station.
Liaise with internal teams, publication holders, and external stakeholders, while delivering training and guidance to personnel handling classified materials.
We’ll provide you with all the training you need to succeed, including:
• Royal Navy Charge Books Officer Course (1 day). Residential course away from RNAS Culdrose
• Royal Navy Crypto Custodian Course (4 days). Residential course away from RNAS Culdrose
Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the role, it is fully site-based and requires Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you will need to demonstrate that you can meet the following essential criteria:
• Experience working within an administrative, logistics, records management, or security-focused (or similar) role.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain processes and provide guidance to others.
• Hold a Full UK Driving Licence required for travelling around the site for the role.
Please note, this role is phyically demanding and involves manual handling, including moving parcels (some of which can be heavy and large) up and down flights of stairs.
