Job description
About the role
This is a new and exciting role being established within the Joint Security Coordination Centre (JSyCC), the team that oversees and coordinates responses to security incidents across Defence. JSyCC is part of the SSC and plays a critical role in turning incident data, operational insight and analysis into meaningful action for DSR.
We are looking for a confident and proactive individual who can lead a small multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality data, management information and operational outputs in support of Defence-wide security incident management. The postholder will provide leadership across JSyCC’s analytical and operational activity, supporting the JSyCC Assistant Head in setting direction, managing priorities and ensuring the team delivers timely, accurate and impactful products.
This is not solely a technical analytical data role. The successful candidate will be expected to lead people, manage delivery, support decision-making and deputise for the Assistant Head JSyCC when required. They will help shape how insight is commissioned, developed and used across DSR, ensuring information from multiple portfolios is accurate, consistent and brought together into a single Defence-wide picture.
The postholder will brief senior leaders on security incident data, analytical trends and operational performance, providing clear dashboards, evidence-based analysis and accessible narrative to support decision-making. Their work will inform senior governance and assurance, including decisions at Defence Board and Audit Committee level.
In summary, this is a chance to shape the future of Defence security in a role that combines leadership, operational delivery, data insight and strategic influence. You will work on issues that matter, supporting the JSyCC Assistant Head and wider DSR senior leadership to improve how Defence understands, reports and responds to security incidents.
What you’ll do
- Lead a small team to deliver high-quality operational, analytical and management information outputs in support of Defence security incident management.
- Support & deputise for the JSyCC Assistant Head in setting priorities, managing delivery, ensuring JSyCC products meet operational and senior leadership requirements and manage urgent operational priorities.
- Brief leaders on security incident data, trends, risks and performance, translating complex analysis into clear and accessible messages for non-analytical audiences.
- Analyse complex quantitative datasets and deliver actionable insight to support planning, performance management, assurance and operational decision-making. As this role matures the analytical responsibilities may be expanded to include other areas within DSR.
- Manage the relationship between JSyCC and the Warning, Advice and Reporting Points (WARPs), ensuring effective engagement across the incident management community and driving improvements in the quality, consistency and timeliness of security incident reporting.
- Lead improvements to the case management system, shaping development based on user needs and ensuring it supports effective, timely and consistent security incident management across Defence.
- Provide direct line management for 1 x HEO Data Analyst and 1 x HEO Operations Manager, setting direction, supporting development and ensuring effective delivery.
- Provide out-of-hours on-call support as part of JSyCC’s operational responsibilities.
Flexible working patterns may be considered, but due to operational requirements, part-time working is not suitable. Domestic travel will be required to RAF Wyton.
For the successful candidate, we will provide training and development in Defence security, JSyCC processes and additional analytical capability where needed to support success in the role.

This role does not meet that category, and we will not sponsor a visa. It is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points-based system.
Should you apply for this role and be found to require sponsorship, your application will be rejected and any provisional offer of employment withdrawn.

These declarations will be discussed with successful candidates following the interview process and before a formal offer of employment is made, as some outside interests may not be compatible with MOD civilian roles. This will not, in the majority of cases, prevent employment in MOD, but it is a measure that must be taken to ensure that appropriate mitigations can be put in place to manage any potential, perceived or actual conflicts of interest from the first day of employment.
