This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Connexions team with SEND young people to support their transition into adulthood from school into further education, training and employment.

You will have a caseload targeting year 11 SEND young people in school settings including special schools, pupil referral units, alternative provision and also Post 16 NEETs.

If the postholder requires a Standard or Enhanced DBS disclosure the candidate is required to declare full details of everything on their criminal record unless the conviction/s and/or caution/s are considered “protected” in line with filtering rules for DBS checks.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Fiona Arnott, on 07718 100 818 or Fiona.arnott@hullcc.gov.uk

ROLE AND PURPOSE

The purpose is to work with young people with an Education Health and Care Plan from age 14 – 25 to support their transition into adulthood with particular emphasis on education, training and employment outcomes including supported internships and inclusive apprenticeships. The role will contribute to the Preparation for Adulthood strategy by improving outcomes for SEND learners, ensuring accurate data is reported to internal and external stakeholders including DfE, and informing proposals to cease EHCPs. This will be delivered through impartial information advice and guidance in a range of locations including schools and other venues both internal and external to Hull City Council.

The post holder will help to develop and promote SEND employability by working with stakeholders including young people, parent/carers, DWP, education and training providers, third sector organisations and the business community to ensure SEND young people have access to a full range of opportunities to meet their needs and aspirations. The postholder will also develop strong links with Children’s and Adult’s social care and Hull City Council’s SEND team to support the transition of SEND young people into sustained Education Employment and Training.

As well as post 16 young people with an EHCP the post holder will hold a caseload of young people in Hull special schools and/or Alternative Providers and will support those identified as being at risk of becoming NEET to transition into suitable post 16 provision. This will assist with the Councils statutory responsibility regarding ‘Participation’ in education and NEET reduction for this vulnerable group of young people.

Using data from sources which include post 16 education and training providers, the SEND team and adult social care, the postholder will track and maintain information on the current situation of individual young adults in the cohort to better identify those who are NEET or not known.

The postholder will also contribute to the organisation of events promoting SEND employability including the annual SEND Post 16 Options and PFA event, information events promoting supported internships and Reverse Job Fairs for SEND young people to showcase their skills to employers.

You will make a positive contribution to the wider Preparation for Adulthood by supporting transitions and raising aspirations for young adults with an EHCP. You will also help to inform the timeliness of proposals to cease the EHCP.
