Devon County Council is looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Admissions Officer to join our Admissions and Free School Meals Team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive knowledge of school admissions who is ready to take a leading role in delivering a fair, transparent and legally compliant admissions service for children and families across Devon.

As a Senior Admissions Officer, you will provide operational leadership within the team, oversee complex and sensitive admission cases, support the management of statutory admissions processes, and work closely with schools, academies, parents and partner agencies.

You will play a key role in ensuring that children can access education quickly and fairly while supporting the continuous development of admissions systems and procedures.

About the Role

You will:

  • Lead on complex admissions casework, including oversubscription, fair access and vulnerable children.
  • Provide expert advice on admissions legislation, statutory guidance and local authority policies.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of normal round and in-year admissions.
  • Manage relationships with schools, academy trusts, neighbouring authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of data, reports and responses relating to admissions matters.
  • Support and mentor Admissions Officers, helping to develop knowledge, skills and service excellence.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Deputise for the Team Lead where required.
  • Support the coordination of admission appeals and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
