Job summary
The Information and Analysis team comprises of statisticians and business intelligence staff responsible for the data collection, analysis and publication of official statistics for the rail industry. We provide analytical support to teams across ORR to support the monitoring of Network Rail, HS1, train operators and other duty/ licence holders.Job description
We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join us to lead work producing and publishing rail analysis and statistics to drive improvements for rail users.
Working in a diverse and friendly team, as a senior analyst, you will lead work to produce and publish rail analysis and statistics across several areas such as passenger usage, industry finances and asset management and environment. You will support the production of other official statistics publications. You will also support colleagues in their regulatory roles to hold Network Rail and others to account to drive improvements for rail users. There are opportunities to collaborate with colleagues to build your own and the team’s data analytics capability, innovate and automate processes.
This job provides you with the opportunity to not only learn about the breadth and depth of work involved in a regulatory environment but also how we combine that with our role as publisher of official statistics on rail.

Additional Information
At ORR, our hybrid working means that we currently work from our workplace location a minimum of 40% of our working week, although requirements to attend other offsite locations for official business, also count towards this level of attendance. Working arrangements are subject to continuous review.
Qualifications
Must have at least one of the following:• A minimum of a 2:2 degree in a numerate discipline containing at least 25% taught statistical content (e.g. statistics, mathematics, economics, psychology, geography or similar), or
• A higher degree, e.g. a MSc or PhD, in a subject containing formal statistical training, or
• Have worked in a statistical or data science field for a minimum of two years and are able to demonstrate Continuous Professional Development in applying statistics at the same level as a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (level 5), which demonstrates the expected skills as outlined in the GSG Competency Framework.
• Have achieved or on track to achieve a level 4 apprenticeship including at least 2 years in a statistical/data analysis field in government and are able to demonstrate personal development in statistics/data analysis
Memberships
Membership of the Government Statistician Group (GSG), or other candidates that are not members of GSG but can demonstrate similar experience at SEO/SStO level and meet the GSG eligibility criteria. GSG badging opportunities will be available for those who wish to apply once in post.Behaviours
