The Role

We’re recruiting for a Senior Analytics Engineer here at the Ministry of Justice, to be part of our warm and collaborative Data Modelling and Engineering team.

This role aligns against Senior Analytics Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework


This is a great opportunity to work with leading cloud technology and help change the way data is used in the public sector. Analytics engineers at MoJ play a critical role in our mission to put data at the heart of decision-making. We're looking for people with the drive to develop a deep understanding of data needs and data availability across specific areas of the Ministry of Justice. You will work in a team of Analytics Engineers, alongside Data Engineers, to bridge the gap between data producers and data users, developing analytical pipelines and self-service tools to acquire and transform data, making it available on our Analytical Platform.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will:

  • Gather requirements from users and translate these into clear deliverables for the Data Engineering and Modelling teams.
  • Build, test and maintain dimensional data models that enable analysis and reporting, ensuring data dimensions are conformed where possible.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Platform colleagues to prioritise, plan, and deliver solutions that enable better decision making.
  • Lead on ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and quality of data pipelines and models.
  • Develop and maintain metadata, documentation, and self-service tools to support data discovery and intelligent use.
  • Highlight data quality or governance issues and work collaboratively to drive improvements.
  • Act as a key point of contact for analytical user communities, promoting automation, efficiency and adoption of tools such as dbt and Airflow.
  • Support others across the organisation to learn, adopt and implement new tools and technologies.
  • Help to build and foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the data community.

Essential

We are looking for people with experience in the following:

  • Using SQL to query and transform data
  • Dimensional modelling including designing and populating star schemas
  • Working with large relational databases
  • Testing and quality assuring data
  • Building data and analytical pipelines
