About the team
The General Applications Team at Hertfordshire County Council is responsible for supporting, developing and providing integration for a wide range of bespoke and third party applications. We ensure minimal disruption by promptly resolving incidents and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
Our key responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving application issues, documenting performance, and managing incidents with third-party suppliers. We also contribute to project meetings.

- Leading the support for critical applications
- Collaborating with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
- Line management of Application Engineers and Junior Application Engineers

About you
Essential:
- Experience in supporting and maintaining software in a live environment: You should have a proven track record of maintaining and supporting complex software applications in a live environment
- Proficiency with SQL databases: You should have a strong understanding of SQL databases and be able to manage and query them effectively
- Application lifecycle management: You should have experience managing the entire lifecycle of applications, from development to deployment and maintenance
- Analytical skills and attention to detail: Strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail are essential for diagnosing and resolving application issues
- Mentoring and leadership: Demonstrable leadership skills
- Collaboration and communication: Strong communication skills to work effectively with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles: Awareness of cybersecurity best practices to ensure the security and integrity of applications
Desirable:
- Experience with integration options: Knowledge of various integration methods
- Awareness of accessibility standards: Understanding and implementing accessibility standards to ensure applications are usable by all individuals
- Knowledge of Oracle databases
- Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services
- Proficiency in scripting languages
