Our Application Support team plays a vital role in ensuring the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of internal applications used across the organisation. The team provides second line support, resolves technical issues, and contributes to a variety of projects and system change initiatives. We also support content management for the DMO’s website and are committed to enhancing service delivery.
The IT Client Service desk is a small, dedicated group responsible for delivering responsive, customer‑focused support across the UK Debt Management Office. The team plays a key role in maintaining day‑to‑day IT service quality while continuously improving processes to enhance efficiency and user experience. Working collaboratively across the organisation, the team combines strong technical capability with excellent customer service skills to ensure staff receive timely, effective support in a fast‑paced business environment.
Team members are expected to be flexible, adaptable, and proactive, with a strong general interest in IT and a commitment to developing new skills. The support function operates on a shift basis between 06:30 and 18:30, Monday to Friday, occasionally, weekend work may be required to support planned changes or critical implementations.
Person specification
We are seeking a Senior Application Support engineer with proven leadership experience, a strong technical foundation, and a collaborative mindset. This role is suited to candidates with at least two years of experience in Application Support, combined with hands‑on VBA development capability. A genuine interest in financial markets is essential, as the role operates within a market‑driven environment. The position will place strong emphasis on managing and delivering a high‑quality service, ensuring operational excellence across the team.
Key responsibilities include:
Facilitating market operations, prioritizing support calls, and assisting the teams in delivering projects and improve processes. Provide KPI’s and assist in Incident and change records together with reviewing vendor contracts and policies and procedures and monitor and guide Service Desk operations.
- Facilitate Market operations and provide weekly escalations to the SDM while leading across the team, including supplying the SDM with updates and serving as an escalation point.
- Manage day to day team resource to provide adequate response for DMO application issues.
- The role oversees daily team resources to ensure timely resolution of DMO application issues and leads regular team and one-to-one meetings. It directs the analysis, troubleshooting, and workaround development for mission-critical applications and VB-enabled spreadsheets, working closely with DMO teams on incident resolution, root cause analysis, and system enhancements. The position also supports users through account and access management, maintains and improves support documentation, ensures smooth onboarding of new applications, promotes staff development and knowledge sharing, drives process automation and continuous improvement, and keeps DMO website content accurate and up to date.
- Provide effective support for BAU incidents and problem resolution as required, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Represent the team on projects and system change initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of our services and tools.
- Apply your experience working with Excel macros and confidently support financial trading systems to ensure smooth and reliable operations.
- Monitor and guide Service Desk operations.
Essential Skills
- Experience – Team Leadership (2 years): Evidence of effective IT leadership, incorporating robust governance, collaboration with stakeholders, team development, and oversight of service delivery.
- Experience Proven experience in 1st and 2nd line Application support Role.
- Technical: Having strong technical knowledge of at least one of the following: Treasury management trading systems, trade settlement systems (SWIFT, CREST), Microsoft Excel, SQL query writing. Market data applications (Bloomberg, Reuters), basic scripting knowledge (e.g. PowerShell). Experience of Application monitoring tools.
- Self-motivated, and able to prioritise, plan and deliver a high-quality service under pressure, identifying resource requirements, ensuring risks are monitored and managed and improving the service to reach professional excellence
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate complex and technical information and ideas with conviction and clarity
Desirable Skills
- Technical: Microsoft Excel VBA -Application support role.
- Secure CMS website Publication Process
- Understanding of financial instruments (e.g. stocks, bonds, derivatives).
- Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS).
