
Senior Business Analyst
Job summary
- Analyse the structure of a business and how it operates.
- Define business IT service needs and requirements and assist the IT architecture and technical teams in translating these needs into technical solutions aligned to service visions, business, and IT strategies.
- Ensure that business requirements are accurately gathered and documented, that user stories are reflected in service designs. Enhance business requirements using modelling and process flows.
- Devise appropriate acceptance criteria for requirements to ensure that technical solutions addressed to meet user stories are effectively deployed and are fit for purpose.
Job description
- Collaboration– accountable for building effective relationships with stakeholders to understand business services and process, to become very familiar with the products and applications comprising the assigned line of business’ technology landscape.
- Business documentation – accountable for developing and designing high quality business requirement documentation using modelling and process flow-diagrams, in order to support the effective and timely development of technical solutions.
- Technical solutions – accountable for working with the Architecture and Technical teams, ensure that business service designs, user stories and requirements are translated effectively into technical solutions, achieving agreed business goals and service visions.
- Improvement development – accountable for assessing and documenting business process and service issues and identify possible solutions or improvements.
- Research – accountable for researching possible solutions to increase work efficiency, including innovative tooling or data science related outcomes.
- Acceptance criteria – accountable for developing appropriate and robust acceptance criteria for effective technical solutions.
- Managing and monitoring relationships with stakeholders. Communicate clearly and regularly, clarifying mutual needs and commitments through consultation and consideration of impacts whilst focusing on user needs. Resolving contradictory business requirements from a variety of business stakeholders within the organisation.
- Promote IT governance processes across the organisation.

Essential Criteria:
- Ability to demonstrate experience in the field of IT architecture, covering a wide range of activities, aligning to the technology, digital and data requirements of the role. This will include capturing and analysing business processes, data and needs, then translating these into technical solutions (Lead).
- Ability to demonstrate the creation of high-level business requirement documentation.
- Experience of research and timely delivery of innovative tooling and solutions to assist the development and improvement of business processes and issues.
- Ability to develop and execute test plans and test scripts for software applications, document expected results vs. actual results, and record software defects.
- Ability to investigate, analyse, visualise and articulate complex problems and concepts and make disciplined decisions based on available information.
- Experience of stakeholder relationship management.
Desirable Criteria:
- Project management experience.

- Recognised architectural qualification e.g. TOGAF.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete:
- An evidence-based Personal Statement and CV reflecting the essential Experience requirements as listed in the Person Specification section of this advert. Your Personal Statement should be no longer than 1,000 words. It should avoid generalised assertions, instead including specific examples of achievements, explaining the degree of challenge, what you did and the outcomes.
- A separate 250-word statement reflecting the desirable criteria. The desirable criteria will only be considered in the event a tiebreaker is needed.

- Lead Criteria: Ability to demonstrate experience in the field of IT architecture, covering a wide range of activities, aligning to the technology, digital and data requirements of the role. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift of all the above requirements or progressed straight to assessment/interview.

This means that if you have met the minimum requirements at sift you may be placed at a ‘Hold’ status for up to 12 months and if we are able to invite you to an interview we will be in touch.
Interview Details
If you have successfully passed sift at the application stage, you will be invited to an interview which will either take place via Microsoft Teams or Face-to-Face, and which will take place from the week commencing 15 June 2026.
It will be an Experience based interview, and it will also include a Presentation (the presentation question and instructions will be sent to candidates who are invited to interview) which will assess the following Essential Experience criteria:
- Ability to demonstrate the creation of high-level business requirement documentation.
The following Essential Experience criteria will also be assessed at Interview:
- Ability to demonstrate experience in the field of IT architecture, covering a wide range of activities, aligning to the technology, digital and data requirements of the role. This will include capturing and analysing business processes, data and needs, then translating these into technical solutions.
- Experience of research and timely delivery of innovative tooling and solutions to assist the development and improvement of business processes and issues.

A reserve list will be created for this position; this means that if you have passed the interview, but we cannot immediately offer you this position, you will be placed on a reserve list for 12 months and may be considered for similar positions during that time.
