The GOV.UK One Login for Government Programme represents a once in a generation opportunity to simplify and widen access to all digital government services. We are building one simple, safe and secure way for users to log in and prove who they are that will work across all government services. GOV.UK One Login is being designed and built for the many, not the few. It will unite services across government, revolutionising the way government departments digitally interact with users.

The right person will join a motivated and dynamic multi-disciplined team at the heart of the programme, working closely with government departments and services to lead onboarding and engagement activity.

Job description

As a Senior Business Relationship Manager on the GOV.UK One Login programme, you’ll:

  • develop and lead effective engagement strategies for departments and services, including identifying and managing key stakeholders, and promoting the use of GOV.UK One Login
  • lead the programme’s engagement and collaboration with service owners and senior leaders within departments and other government organisations onboarding GOV.UK One Login products and services to ensure complex needs are understood, prioritised, and incorporated into delivery plans
  • maintain a pipeline of ‘prospects’ and customer relationship management information relating to government departments and services and their adoption plans
  • prioritise and resource the engagement and account management of services onboarding and using GOV.UK One Login products and services
  • work with other teams within the programme to ensure comprehensive end-to-end engagement with departments and services, from initial contact through to onboarding, and through to account management of live services
  • sequence GOV.UK One Login product roadmaps to support adoption of products and services in order to deliver the critical success factors of the programme
  • play a major role in ensuring that GOV.UK One Login continues to meet the evolving needs of onboarded services and their users, drawing on data and insights from GDS and departments, to support continuous improvement
  • extend and grow the current approach focused on GOV.UK One Login to incorporate onboarding departments and other government organisations to the GOV.UK Wallet

Person specification

We’re interested in people who:

  • have extensive experience of managing strategic relationships, building new connections and nurturing existing ones, as well as contributing to the development of strategies whilst providing challenges to ensure programme/business needs are met
  • have experience of working in an equivalent digital/technical service delivery environment across a wide and complex service delivery context
  • use excellent communication and relationship building skills to work with partners to collect information and evidence on challenges and opportunities
  • have experience working with multidisciplinary digital service delivery teams and ideally with service migration
  • look to iterate and improve processes, and bring an agile approach to optimising opportunities

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
DSIT does not normally offer full home working (i.e. working at home); but we do offer a variety of flexible working options (including occasionally working from home).

Selection process details

The standard selection process for roles at GDS consists of:

  • a simple application screening process - We only ask for a CV and cover letter of up to 750 words. Important tip - please ensure that your cover letter includes how you meet the skills and experience listed in the “person specification” section above
  • a 60 minute video interview. As part of the interview process there will be a presentation task. Details around the presentation task will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

Depending on how many applications we get, there might also be an extra stage before the video interview, for example a phone interview or a technical exercise.

In the event we receive a high volume of applications, we will conduct the initial sift against the lead criteria which is:

  • have extensive experience of managing strategic relationships, building new connections and nurturing existing ones, as well as contributing to the development of strategies whilst providing challenges to ensure programme/business needs are met

Candidates that do not pass the interview but have demonstrated an acceptable standard may be considered for similar roles at a lower grade.

Please note that this role requires SC clearance, which would normally need 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. This is not an absolute requirement, but supplementary checks may be needed where individuals have not lived in the UK for that period. This may mean your security clearance (and therefore your appointment) will take longer or, in some cases, not be possible.

For meaningful checks to be carried out, you will need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time, to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. Whilst a lack of UK residency in itself is not necessarily a bar to a security clearance, and expectation of UK residency may range from 3 to 5 years.
