About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer – Delivery Management (Traffic Management & Safety) to lead the operational delivery of traffic management and road safety interventions across Derbyshire. This role is central to improving network safety, resilience, and efficiency through well-planned and executed projects.
You will manage a team of delivery officers and oversee the implementation of traffic management schemes, safety improvements, and minor works. Working closely with internal teams, contractors, and external partners, you’ll ensure projects meet agreed specifications, budgets, and timelines while driving continuous improvement and value for money.
This is a senior operational role requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the delivery of traffic management and road safety projects.
• Manage contracts and monitor supplier performance.
• Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 and health and safety regulations.
• Oversee procurement, contract administration, and risk management.
• Develop delivery schedules and manage budgets effectively.
• Liaise with stakeholders, elected members, and external agencies.
• Champion innovation and sustainable practices in traffic management.
• Deputise for the Delivery Manager in strategic forums and public engagements.
About You
• Significant experience in traffic management and safety delivery within highways or infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, NEC contracts, and best practice delivery principles.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• High level of numeracy and analytical ability for financial and performance monitoring.
• Commitment to safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
• HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Extensive experience managing traffic management programmes and operational teams.
• Demonstrable experience in procurement and contract administration.
Desirable
• Membership of professional institutions (e.g., ICE, IHE, CIHT).
• Project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
• Experience acting as Principal Designer under CDM regulations.
• Familiarity with public sector procurement rules and collaborative delivery models.
