We are recruiting a Senior Engineer (Highways) at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Working hours: 37
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
Location: Penallta House / Home working / Working hours can be split between home and office depending on specific task requirements.

We are seeking a technically skilled and motivated Senior Engineer to join Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Engineering Projects Group (EPG).

You will lead the design, contract management, and site supervision of infrastructure schemes including junction and highway improvements, road safety schemes, safe routes, active travel, carparks and sustainable drainage (SuDS).

The role involves deputising for the Principal Engineer, mentoring staff, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations, and driving innovation in sustainable design. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

For the role, we ask that you have:

  • Relevant Level 4, 5 or 6 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions on complex problems and to do so within an acceptable timescale and agreed project parameters.
  • Experienced in working in a business culture of competition and meeting performance targets.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the borough to undertake inspections, contract supervision and attend meetings.
