We are looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support and develop our existing Linux and Storage infrastructure. The Linux and Storage team performs a key role in the IT Services area of Companies House. The team supports the infrastructure that runs both front end services and back-end databases that underpin the core business functions of Companies House i.e. company registration, dissolution, and the storage of company information, as required under the Companies Act.

Job description
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Linux & Storage), you will: ·
- be part of a team that provides 8:30am to 5pm cover.
- take part in a 24/7/365 on call rota.
- respond to and resolve incidents to meet agreed targets.
- proactively monitor system performance, taking preventative or corrective action where required, ensuring Change Management procedures are always adhered to.
- provide root cause analysis to problems and propose/implement appropriate corrective actions.
- take a proactive role in the project to migrate on-premise services to cloud.
- participate in configuration design and upgrade pathways for the existing infrastructure.
- configure and install solutions to meet the business needs, ensuring agreed standards and the Companies House Change Management process is adhered to.
- decommission redundant systems/hardware.
- document existing and future systems/processes.
- ensure the CMDB is kept up to date.

Person specification
We are looking for the following experience and skills which will be assessed at sift and interview.
The successful candidate will be someone who has:
- experience of working with cloud computing technologies, specifically AWS.
- experience of working with automation technologies such as Terraform, Ansible & Concourse.
- experience of Linux administration, including virtualisation.
- knowledge of SAN technologies, including NetApp CVO/FSx.
- the ability to work as a member of a technical team who actively shares knowledge to help ensure all team members develop their skills and are kept up to date with any technical changes that could impact the team.
- excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure and prioritise work effectively.
- ability to work remotely from other team members and still be able to communicate effectively using the appropriate communication channel (telephone, Slack, email etc.) to resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
- ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff at all levels of the organization with excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
- ability to engage effectively with 3rd party support/vendors to resolve technical issues where necessary.

Where will you be working?
You will be aligned to our Cardiff office, where you will be expected to attend on a regular basis. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work which provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities. Your manager will agree regular patterns of attendance with you, however you may be required to make yourself available to attend the office more frequently when required to meet business needs.
On-call Allowance and Overtime rates
The team operates a rota system, with each team member providing one week of cover approximately every four weeks. This arrangement may change in line with business and team needs.

The flat rate on-call allowance payment assumes up to 30 minutes spent in resolving incidents in a 24-hour period. Any incident (or cumulative incidents) that require longer than 30 minutes resolving would attract standard overtime rates. If attendance on site is necessary, then a minimum of 3 hours’ overtime would be payable.
In addition, during weekend on-call you will be able to claim additional overtime when responding to an alert/call as set out below:

Stage 2 - Interview
Companies House uses a blended interview technique, allowing us to find out more about you. We use the Success Profile framework and at interview we will use Success Profiles assessing the Behaviours and Technical skillslisted in the advert.
Successful candidates from the sift stage will be invited to a virtual interview, which will be conducted using Microsoft Teams.
The lead criteria to distinguish between tied candidates will be the Technical skill: Automation (specifically Terraform).
A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made for the same or similar roles.
All offers will be made in merit order.

Security Clearance
Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed.
BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Security Check (SC) before they can be appointed.
The requirement for SC clearance is to have been present in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Failure to meet the residency requirements will result in your security clearance application being rejected.
