Job summary

The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom.

The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.

SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job

Role overview

The Senior Intelligence Analyst will lead the SIA’s Private Security Industry Research and Analysis team, managing priorities, developing capability and ensuring the delivery of high-quality strategic, tactical and operational intelligence products. Working with senior leaders, operational teams, law enforcement and regulatory partners, you will identify emerging threats, risks and trends and turn complex information into clear insight that directs activity and supports effective regulation. This is an influential role for an experienced intelligence professional who combines analytical expertise with leadership, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Person specification

Essential

  • The ability to produce, and the practical experience of leading and managing the production, of operational, tactical and strategic analytical products. The ability to lead and manage, and the practical experience of this within an intelligence function.
  • Successful completion of a nationally recognised Intelligence Analyst training programme. Ability to demonstrate detailed practical understanding and experience of working with the principles of the National Intelligence Model.
  • Experience of working as an Intelligence Analyst in a law enforcement or regulatory regime for at least 5 years.
  • Ability to demonstrate detailed practical understanding and experience of legislation relating to the control and processing of information particularly the Data Protection Act, General Data Protection Regulations, the Freedom of Information Act, the Human Rights Act, Common Law Police Disclosure and other relevant legislation relevant to regulatory bodies.
  • Experience in developing and managing a high performing team, being held accountable for the delivery of outputs essential to operational daily business.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of building strong, positive working relationships that supports the influencing and negotiating with Senior Key Contacts.

Desirable

  • Practical understanding of The Private Security Act 2001.
  • Practical understanding of the SIA’s regulatory products.
  • Practical knowledge of software including iBase, Analyst Notebook, Microsoft CRM, and Microsoft Office and the use of these systems to facilitate daily activity including, but not limited to, building queries, collating information, producing reports and communicating with others through emails and scheduling meetings.

Interviews will be held on 18th & 19th November 2026.

Further Information

A reserve list of successful candidates will be kept for a maximum of 12 months. Should another role become available within that period you may be offered this position.

New entrants are expected to join on the minimum of the pay band.
