Job summary
The SFO supports the UK’s prosperity and global market position by promoting stable business conditions through investigating and prosecuting the most serious and complex fraud, bribery and corruption, and money laundering nationally and internationally. Our mission is to reduce the harm caused by high level economic crime, and to preserve and enhance the reputation of the UK as a safe place to do business. We do that by taking on a selected number of large complex cases for investigation and, where appropriate, prosecution or other judicially supervised disposal. We also pursue criminals for recovery of unlawful financial gains. We are unique in that we both investigate and prosecute offenders and have special legal powers to enable us to do this.
The Intelligence Division is responsible for the receipt, collation, and analysis of information, intelligence and referrals of criminal activity to the SFO. The Division builds and develops intelligence products to identify cases suitable for investigation by the SFO, and proactively engages with the wider Law Enforcement and intelligence community in the sharing of intelligence.
As a Senior Intelligence Officer you will lead on Intelligence Development Operations, using the SFO’s pre-investigation powers to develop cases of serious or complex fraud, bribery and corruption which fit the criteria for SFO investigation set by the Director.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team of Intelligence Officers responsible for the early investigation of high-profile instances of serious and complex economic crime, building intelligence packages and identifying the evidential opportunities which will underpin formal SFO investigations.
Job description
As a Senior Intelligence Officer you will be responsible for:
- Leading on SFO Intelligence Development Operations, or ‘pre-investigations’, to develop the intelligence picture around cases of serious and complex fraud, bribery and corruption, to prepare and present packages suitable for formal investigation by the SFO.
- Liaising and collaborating with bodies across the public and private sectors (including other government agencies and relevant police forces) in order to collect information which may further enhance the intelligence picture.
- Developing strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to understand and support the specific intelligence requirements of cases adopted for formal investigation by the SFO.
- Providing guidance and oversight of the triage of incoming referrals, and subsequent intelligence development.
- Building up accurate and comprehensive intelligence pictures, which identify potential areas of interest for the office, seeking clarification, obtaining additional material or making further enquiries where necessary.
- Collating and validating intelligence, evaluating the reliability of particular sources and the credibility of the information with a view to assisting in the strategic direction of the office.
- Supporting the implementation of National Intelligence Model standards across the SFO.
