We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Internal Auditor to help strengthen HM Land Registry’s governance, risk management and internal control environment. In this role, you will deliver a variety of high‑profile audit engagements in line with Global Internal Audit Standards, providing timely, evidence‑based assurance to senior leaders and the Audit and Risk Committee.
You will be responsible for planning, delivering and reporting on audit assignments, producing clear and insightful recommendations that support improvement across the organisation. You will work closely with colleagues at all levels, offering expert advice on risk and control matters and contributing to consultancy reviews and special investigations where required.
Alongside your audit delivery, you will support the Head of Internal Audit and Senior Internal Audit Manager in developing the audit function - helping to shape policy, processes and future strategy. This role provides the opportunity to influence organisational change, work across a wide range of business areas and contribute to HM Land Registry achieving its strategic objectives.
As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will also benefit from exposure to a wide variety of audit work across the organisation and regular contact with senior leaders. You will join a friendly, supportive team of experienced auditors from diverse backgrounds, with a strong commitment to continuing professional education and wider development.
HM Land Registry offers flexible working practices to support a positive work‑life balance, and this role attracts a non‑pensionable allowance in addition to the base salary (£2943 for CIA, £4,709 for CMIIA and up to £8,245 for an accountancy qualification).
Person specification
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Significant internal audit experience demonstrating strong audit and assurance knowledge and expertise; from scoping audit assignments, drafting terms of reference and testing strategies through to reporting findings, timely report delivery and following up on management actions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, demonstrating ability to communicate key messages clearly and succinctly to stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Strong analytical approach to information and data; collating sufficient, relevant information to support conclusions.
- Organised and able to manage your own time and resource effectively and efficiently; proactively identify, expect and take ownership of issues that could impact on delivery of your and the wider teams’ objectives and provide options or solutions ahead of deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, demonstrating ability to build good relationships with a variety of stakeholders at all levels in an organisation to establish and maintain respect both professionally and personally.
Due to the nature of the role some travel to other HMLR offices may occasionally be required, including overnight stays.
Where an individual taking up the responsibility will be based in Swansea Office, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable, however this will not be assessed during the process.

Qualifications
Candidates will need to demonstrate experience within the discipline of the professional audit/accountancy body detailed below, and have achieved at least one of the following:Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (UK & Ireland) or overseas equivalent
• CMIIA designation (or the MIIA designation where you qualified under the previous exam route and did not apply to make this chartered).
You must hold the equivalent of the MIIA designation, if you studied overseas, you should verify this with the CIIA UK & Ireland prior to submitting your application.
Or
• Internal Audit part qualified – have passed at least CIA 1, CIA 2 and CIA 3 (or PIIA under the pre-chartered route).
Or
Accountancy
• Fully or part qualified through CCAB bodies or UK overseas equivalent.
ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS and Chartered Accountants Ireland, CIMA – at least two-thirds of required exam passes
ICAEW – passes in both the Certificate and Professional levels
