Permanent Role

The London Borough of Merton is seeking an experienced Senior IT Analyst (GIS – Geographical Information Systems) with a strong track record in supporting and developing ArcGIS Enterprise solutions, alongside a broad range of GIS applications within a public sector setting.

Merton is currently going through a significant period of technical transformation, with a number of key projects planned over the coming years.

This role sits within the Digital Products Team, a supportive and collaborative environment made up of dedicated and professional colleagues. Please note that the GIS team is expected to move into a separate structure in the near future.

At present, Merton Council operates a hybrid GIS setup, with both on‑premise ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the Council’s GIS strategy. This will involve both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery of ArcGIS-based solutions across a variety of business areas, often addressing complex requirements. Maintaining strong day-to-day operational support (business as usual) will also be a key part of the role.

You’ll need to be comfortable interpreting complex business needs and explaining how GIS can meet those requirements in a practical and cost-effective way, including working with non-GIS users at all levels, from senior managers to junior officers.

Experience with implementing, developing, and supporting ArcGIS Enterprise solutions is essential, along with a good working knowledge of FME (Feature Manipulation Engine).

Strong skills in data management, web map and application configuration, and Microsoft SQL Server are also required. You’ll also be expected to support and guide users in their use of GIS, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are important.

There will also be times when you’ll provide technical support for non-GIS systems, with training and documentation provided where needed.

This role sits within a career-graded structure.

Merton Council offers a competitive salary, generous annual leave, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. We’re also committed to supporting the development of our staff.

The work will be carried out as a hybrid position with an expectation that you will attend the office three times a week.

The role is based at the Merton Civic Centre, directly opposite Morden Underground Station (Northern Line). It’s also within a 10-minute walk of Morden Road Tram Stop and close to both Morden South and South Merton railway stations. Wimbledon is also nearby.

If you would like to find out more about the role, please contact Jose Diaz, Business Systems Manager, on 0208 545 3849.

Candidates will be required to complete a remote technical test as part of the recruitment process, so access to a computer with internet connectivity will be necessary.
